Custom cell phone install with pics

OK, so its not high tech, but here it is. I didn't want to install a big mount somewhere and drill a million holes in my car. I stuck a small piece of velcro to the car and drilled 1 hole nearby for the handsfree connector to the phone. Then I ran the wire under the bowling ball trim piece and into the rear cupholder. I stuck another small piece of velcro to the underside of the cupholder door. I can find and retrieve the earbud and answer a call with one hand and without looking. And when I sell the car, I can easily remove the velcro and cover the hole with a plastic plug. Also, the phone is just narrow enough that it doesn't interfere with sportshift. When the cupholder door is closed and the phone removed, all you see is the stub where the handsfree adapter connects to the phone.

Can you still use SS? Looks like it blocks it. Not that it's a big loss....

Gold, Sportshift is not blocked. I have just enough clearance that it doesn't rub.

Ken, I just switched from Cingular and am happy. With Cingular, I'd lose signal if I went inside a building made of ricepaper. Concrete, forget it. Damn low power 1900Mhz. Verizon has been very solid. And lets just say that Sprint doesn't have the best reputation around here.

Yeah, I know about that. But that's going to change...real soon. Hope you didn't sign a contract.

By the way, I'm going for the full Motorola install for the StarTAC / Timeport, I have the kit and some help from a ex-installer for SW Bell. I hope I don't have to drill too many holes.

I have the OEM Motorola handfree earbud. Its over 4 feet long. I stick it in my right ear and still have enough slack to move my head around, check blind spots, etc.

Are you saying Sprint will improve or Verizon will tank? I have the Startac 7868 which does 800/1900 so Verizon must have some 1900Mhz areas but I'm hoping SoCal stays at 800.

Yeah, unfortunately it is....I'm a cell phone whore (to a fault), I spent $450 on the Nokia 8890- they are big waste of $$, but most things that are cool are.

I just started with Nextel in DC and I gotta say I'm pretty damn happy.

Considering the dearth of cell towers due to about a bazillion community covenants banning towers, it's usually pretty good. Better than Sprint or Verizon or Stinkular.

I have the V60 and the features are really cool. Voice dialing, 400# memory, caller id on the outside, etc. But the reception on my V8160 was a little better. The volume for the microphone on the V60 is not as loud as on the V8160. But the V60 looks real cool. Everyone asks 'what kind of phone is that?'
