Cruising during break in period...

I was reading in the FAQ that you're not supposed to cruise during the break in period of the car. I have about 200 miles on my CL and it's looking like I'm going to have to take about a 150 mile trip which would involve mostly cruising. So I guess my question is, how bad would it be to do this? Should I really try to avoid it?

Yeah don't cruise for that 150 mile trip. Maybe cruise for thirty miles or so but vary the RPM's by dropping from 5th to 4th. Give it a little gas. Go about 70 and drop it in third should be in the 5K range once or twice. But for the most part just stay between 10-15 MPH above the speed limit and drive normal.

PGA is correct, but watch dropping into third. The most important thing to avoid is rapid increases in engine RPM. Be sure to vary speed, and switch back and forth between 4th and 5th. If you slow to 50, drop into third, gradually increase to 75, then upshift. You can run to nearly redline in the breakin period, in fact you should after the first 50 miles. This is important to fully seat the rings, finish the mill on the bore, seat the bearings, etc.
