Cruise Control and Brake Question

I had my car in for the transmission recall about a month and a half ago and I hadn't taken any significant drives since then. I was on my way home from school for Christmas and I tried to use the Cruise Control and it would at first act like it was going to work, but shortly after taking my foot off the gas the speed would decrease like CC wasn't on. I know it used to work before I took it in for the transmission recall but I fear that the dealer will charge me to look at it and fix it since I'm out of warranty. Is there anything else I can do? Also, I had my car in for "customer appreciation day" at my dealership and they did a complimentary inspection and said I need new rear brake pads. They will charge $140 for parts and labor. Should I just let them go ahead and do it, or can I go somewhere else and get something comparable for less? Thanks.

I apologize if this is a silly question but ... did you "engage" the cruise control with the button on the right first?

Of course I did, I know how to use the cruise control. I pushed the button first so it lit up in the dash, then I tried to set it and it didn't work.

Do the pads yourself, the labor is what is expensive. Or, you can probably get pads done at a local brake shop for under $75, if you shop around.

make sure you get the correct pads if you get it done at another shop though

according to what you said, you are not engaging CC. you have to be completely off the gas then press the button, you should feel the car pick up.
if you know for sure its not working for some reason, get it fixed at dealer if you still have warranty

I'm out of warranty, and I've tried engaging CC a few different ways. I'm not really sure if something happened when they did the recall or what, but it doesn't work at all.
