Crazy Brakes

Just registered my CL-6spd in Maryland. Had to get it inspected and I was expecting to having to replace the brakes since the car has over 75K miles. Surprise... the mechanic said the car had over 50% of pad material remaining at all wheels.

Is this exceptional for this model?

I've owned many cars and have never even come close to this rate of brake wear.

With all of your PA to Florida highway trips I would guess you’re more likely to wear out the cruise control before your brake pads.

Sounds like he’s implying that they’re original.
If that’s the case……. Somebody call Guinness.

They are the original pads. They've never been changed.

That's some pretty good wear. Sounds like you drive a lot of highway and with the 6 speed, you probably get some engine braking to help with brake wear. Sounds very possible to me.

not exactly. you just dont brake often enoouuggh! with highway driving and light braking, it could last quite a long time. ill ask my dad cuz he squeezes everything to its last drop to see what his best is. but 75k on our mushy pads is a helluva lot!

I've got 75k on my car and the front pads were replaced once when the rotors were cut. I am waiting to get new rotors and pads since the rotors are warped again.

Hardly, I've got 78K on my 6sp and have around 40% left.

Shift down, and plan ahead so I don't have to stand on them all the time.
