Crazy ass night, WRX STI and Civic

Was leaving this pizza place in SF last night to head back home with a couple of my friends. We were on 19th ave, which for those of you who don't know SF is a basically straight street that goes the length of the city, with a speed limit of 35. My two friends and I are stopped at a streetlight, which has been red for maybe 8 or 9 seconds when all of a sudden, we hear a loud roar coming right at us.

An electron blue WRX STI blows past us and the red light at over 80 miles per hour. Fucking insane, we think. Then all of a sudden, a late 90's silver civic hatchback comes screeching to a stop right next to us, clearly he'd been trying to run the STI. By this time we can smell the burning rubber in my car. I could also hear his car either purging, or more likely his blowoff valve, so his car was clearly modified. I gave it a little gas out of the light, slightly revving to get his attention, after letting him catch up, we went WOT for about a block an a half when all of a sudden I see a couple of familiar looking break lights in front of us.

Thats right, the STI noticed us running, and decided to wait back for some fun. He let us pass, by this time the Civic and I are going about 75. I look in my passanger side mirror, and see hte STI probably 10 or 15 car lengths behind us. My friends (who were high) by this time are screaming like crazy. We hear the STI roar, and I look in the mirror again, and realize he's making his move. Needless to say, he passed me like I was standing still, and blew away the Civic and myself.

Luckily, we all stopped at the next light. The STI driver gave us a thumbs up (nice guy) and his buddy nodded as well. At green, all three cars gave it all they had, some serious chirping on these take offs. The STI and Civic got the jump on me, but I made up the ground on the Civic pretty quickly.

After another couple of blocks, the Civic turned away, as did the STI, that car is such a beast. I might have given the Civic more trouble if I didn't have two passengers (he had none) and subs, but, who knows.

As a side note, to all you traffic safety people, it was about 1:00 in the morning, and the only other car we saw was a riced out Celica. Also, my friend and I hit 125 later that night on 101, might have pushed it farther but the road turned.

Overall, a fun night!

I'm just waiting for kevin to come in hree and say something along the lines of "racing is bad". :P

and yes, those STi's ARE fucking beasts, especially for a goddamn I4. What kind of engine is in one of those, and what is their stock boost psi?

The engine is an F4(a.k.a flat 4) or boxer engine. It's a 2.5L pushing 300hp and 300lb trq and it's boosting 14.5 psi..

Way to nitpick a shade of blue out of the whole story. Good use of the quote feature too.
