Crank Pulley: to buy or not to buy

I've been looking into an Unorthodox crank pulley but its a little pricey. Is a crank pulley worth the money? Does it have an affect on daily driving?

Worth can pretty much only be determined by yourself. It doesn't have any ill-effects for daily driving.

definitely worth it. i just got on my unorthodox racing pulleys and waited the week for the ECU to recalibrate...and holy shit. i was not expecting that much from a pulley! BTW i also have headers and CAI combined with it...

you get more low end torque, and the rpms jump up faster! great mod. buy it! should do the same even if you are stock at the moment

From what I hear...the crank pulley is a for sure buy!

The other pulleys are basically worthless!

Not completely worthless, you pick up about a pony for each accessory pulley. Not really worth the money for the power but they look nice though.

$25 is a great price for some gain but i heard from some people that they can cause engine damage because the pulleys dont have counterweights. I doubt this is true given the fact that most engines are internally balanced........but does anyone know for sure if this is true?

underdrive.
Also, yes the engine is internally balanced. There should be no danger of using an underdrive pulley.

Option Racing Crank Pulley

I'm glad someone asked about this. Been searching for the thread about the option pulley but could not find it.

I wanted to ask if anyone knew the belt/part number that would need to be purchased with the option pulley so people could grab it at a kragen/autozone etc. Thx

Well if the aftermarket pulley fails by breaking somehow, then I guess it wouldnt be all bad since you wouldn't damage the engine just lose all you accessories and alt. power. If your not paying someone to do the install then go for it I guess.

with no problems. And a few other accessories.

This is what I have always heard, and the same reason that I have never gotten the underdrive pulley! I have worked hard on making my system the best it can be, and dont wanna compromise 10hp for the loss of quality of my music.

thats only with the alternator and power sterring pulley the crank pully wont affect it and the crank is where the hp comes from.

seriously do you even think before you post up your 'facts'?

what do you think the UNDERDRIVE pulley is UNDERDRIVING? here's a hint. YOUR ACCESSORIES.

if you're in a 6speed, you can consider moving up to the 120A alternator from an automatic CL-S.

as well, doing the Big3 upgrade would probably even everything out as well.
there's not going to be much difference in terms of running unless you're pumping over 500rms

The part numbers varies. I work at NAPA and our numbers differ from that of Autozone/carquest ect.

UR is the only company that makes the stock size pulley, unfortunately they have discontinued it since it didn't sell very well.

BUT we got a group buy together to make a last batch that only Excelerate has. so i'd get it before he runs out

search the forums.....i velieve its something with taking off your wheel, placing the socket over the bolt and placing the breaker bar against your frame, and cranking your engine to break it loose. Guru's please chime in on this for me......

The guy still has a point the crank pulley your talking about will underdrive everything 15%. Not too bad in my opinion, So just get the Sc pulley instead of the S.
