A couple of questions regarding headers

These will be applied to an '03 CL-S 6 speed manual with an AEM CAI.

From what I have gathered, Comptech makes the best header, but it is ridiculously overpriced.

Megan, DCsports, xssports, alphawerks all make headers for much much cheaper, but they are not as high of quality as the ComptechUSAs.

Of these slightly cheaper brands, which one is considered the longest lasting with the most potential gains? It needs to last longer than a year.

Sorry for the somewhat vague "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" question, but It's not even for my car, and I did do a fair amount of research already.

Thanks in advance!

DC doesnt fit our cars
Alphaworks have fitment issues
Megans have resonating sound problems
XS decent replication of the comptech at a lower price
Comptech are the best, but way over priced.

Well there's only 2 options you have because you have a 6MT......

Comptech
XS power

Nothing else fits a 6MT.

XS power is the best alternative to CT.

I've had my XS headers on for just over 1 year now & haven't had single problem with them.
I've had CT's on another CLS as well & they are the same thing in my book.

My domestic is far superior to bud light. lol.

My friend drives the CL-S and loves it!!

I drive an '04 Focus SVT with the EAP package...that is the black leather recaro interior and the HID headlights and...well a bunch of other junk you are probably all not to interested in.

I have driven my friends CL-S and I LOVE IT!!! If I could afford 24,000 I would buy one in a heart beat. I got my Focus for 14,000 with 25,000 miles on the clock and for the money there is no better car.

SOOOOOOO....thanks for the answers everyone!! I'll let him know that the XS is the best alternative to the Comptech. How much is a set of headers (I'm used to saying header since I drive a 4 banger lol) going to run?

The other option is to keep an eye out in the Black market and pick up a set of used Comptech headers. I was lucky and found a set for $600 that were less than 6 months old.

Comptechs are the best hands down. They fit like a glove. I have never had an issue installing them nor have I had an issue with the ones on my car.

The XS Power are pretty decent. Not made as well as the Comptechs but still fairly well made. They have decent looking welds. They didn't quite line up as perfectly as the Comptechs but after a little struggling they fall into place. I don't/have never owned them so I can't comment on their reliability but according to those who have them they are fine.

Thats what I did. Granted mine were a little older, but I also paid less. Best of both worlds.

Awesome...thanks for all your inputs.

he says he wants a high flow cat and a tune. I'll search for those parts. Any inputs on HFC's and tunes?

Sun Diego, I'm down to run with you guys. My car is made for the twisties! I'll ask my friend if he wants to roll too.

Random Technology makes a high flow cat for the base model CL. However you can make it fit the Type S. You have to extend the 02 sensor 6" and slightly drill out the holes on the flange for the exhaust so you can get some bolts through but the gains are pretty nice for the cat. Some dynos a few years ago showed about 10whp. For tuning you can get the UNICHIP. It is PnP and can be custom tuned or sent with maps for what mods you have.

As far as I know a UNICHIP doesn't work on a 6mt. At least that's the least I heard.

You may have a problem with XS headers then. They are not carb stickered. Only Comptech is.

He joined, but he's new to forums. I work at a place with a computer so I can spend 8 hours at a time online. He doesn't go online very often. I think he joined the forum though and I will find out what his handle is.

It should pass emissions/smog just fine but I believe in CA it is illegal to replace a perfectly working cat. It won't pass visual inspection either. So technically I don't think RT can claim it is 50 state legal.
