Could this be a problem?????

My dad changed my oil on Sat. He put in 5 qts of oil when the owners manual says 4.6 qts. Should I be worried? What should I do?

If it is over the seond level indicator... just open the drain plug for like a 1 sec or 2... and drain 1/2 Qrts. Re tighten the drain plug and check the oil level.

That small amount will overflow into the blinker fluid and not be a problem. However if you continue it will surely cause you a blinker fluid problem.. YMMV

When I changed my oil a few weeks ago, the indicator didnt reach the "full" level until i had added the rest of the oil from the 5th quart, so you should be fine with 5 quarts in it.

Blinker fluid is one of the many cutting edge automotive products from Kaleco.

Here's the direct link to their blinker fluid:

I too am a very satisfied Kaleco customer. Their synthetic formula really makes a noticable difference in blinker function.

I'm really happy with another Kaleco product; their engine "cleaner" for the internal side of the engine. Just add to the oil this crafty mix of iron filings, graphite and copper schrapnel, and the pistons and rings just scour the engine clean. No need for extensive engine teardowns, either. Check the link for Kaleco listed above. It is invalueable!

I think it's bad to have it too full....i did the same as you did, i over filled it. What happens is that it goes back up the dip stick hole, and it will get onto the belt and the pullies. You can tell because you will have burn oil marks on the pullies that arn't suppose to be there...and it you know it oil because you can see the oil drip marks on the side of the dip stick hole.

Blinker fluid sounds as good as tent pole grease, dehydrated water tablets and a left-handed smoke shifter

I guarantee you won't have any problems putting 5qt instead of 4.6qt..
Several mechanics told me that there is a safety feature in every car, and you can always be 1 qt over the specificiations. I would not ever bother measuring 4.6, just dump all 5qts and that's it.
I guarantee that extra 0.4 qt will never do any harm....

Stop with the blinker joke already.

You will run into problem if you overfill by a great amount. I overfilled the oil in my Accord V6 once and it fouled out all the spark plugs. When I pulled the spark plugs, I had oil in the cylinder chambers and PCV return line. The spark plugs themselves, including the spark tips were soaked with burned oil. You will experience hard starting because of fouled plugs. Do yourself a favor and drain some out.

BAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

HOLY HIJACKED THREAD BATMAN!

oil = you should be fine

Blinker Fluid=how great is that, give it a try, post a dyno when you're done.

Then:

Maybe we should just use the do-it-yourself body kits?

I think that would look real nice on my CL :P

boy some of you guys are being very careless. if the specs is for 4.6 quart then its 4.6 quarts. check the dip stick, if the oil is past the mark then you have too much motor oil WHICH IS BAD BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE FOAMING AND BREAK YOUR MOTOR!!

The engine will burn away any excess oil if you slightly overfill it. Don't overfill it more than about 3/4 of a quart or you better drain some out.

whoever posted the kalecoauto link THANKS! I couldn't stop laughing for a while... I needed it too... Expecially the O -pipe for dual exhaust!@!

WORST HIJACKING EVER! my 2 cents

As long as it's under the "full" mark on the dipstick, you're fine.

Did you have to track that guy down to get your money???

On Topic: I always use 5 quarts or oil. Oil reaches the top line on the dip stick.
