Correct Tranny Fluid Level

When I follow the manual on checking the tranny fluid level it is right between the two dots like it should be. However, if I wait about 3 minutes and check it again the fluid level is a little above the second dot. I'm assuming the fluid is slowly draining down from the gears. Since the manul does not mention anything about waiting I assume my level is appropriate, correct? Any thoughts????

When you're checking the level, I'm assuming that you're doing it on level ground, the engine off and at normal operating temperature.

Is the first reading you're taking right after you shut down? And how much time elapses before you take the second reading and it's higher?

I didn't think it would vary that much but I've never tried different time intervals.

Yes, it is on level ground with the engine off at normal operating temperature. The first reading I am taking is right after shutting down. If I take the reading three minutes after that it is a little higher and a little above the second dot.

I called my mechanic later yesterday and he indicated the proper procedure is 60 seconds after shutting off the car and indicated not to worry about it if it goes above the second dot after that.

^^ naturally there is oil/fluid higher up in the gears or wherever thus it'll take a a min or so for all the fluid to reach the pan at the bottom so u can get the correct reading.

when u put honey on your waffles.. the honey sticks to the side of its container and slowly goes back to the bottom.

that's like the inside of a motor or tranny to.. just not as slow as honey.. lol
