coolant

when do you guys change the coolant? the reason i ask is because today i was washing my car and decided to take out the coolant reserve tank out and look to see if i was low and to wash the bottle. It was filty, jesus. Also while i opened up the bottle i saw little specs of brown in the coolant also the coolant is dark dark green. It looked like it was rust or something. It doesnt look pretty, so i have only 26,000 miles in my 03 tls and was wondering if now is a good time to flush it?

Also i looked in the manuel to see how to do a change and there are 2 bolts, the manuel describes as both of being for draining? im confused which one i am suppose to use? why are there 2 bolts for draining?

You flush coolant generally every 50K-80K.

The coolant is supposed to be DARK GREEN. But a bottle of Honda coolant, and it's dark green....

One bolt relieves the pressure, the other drains the coolant.

Shouldn't. It's not like an old American cast iron block that generates rust.

definitely not. Something doesn't sound right with your coolant. My CLS has 34k miles on it and the coolant looks good as new.

Nope. That's not good. I would have Acura take a look at it. If there's rust, they may flush the system for you.

You won't see rust in an Acura but you will see black sludge in the bottom of the overflow tank from the coolant eating the aluminum.

i haven't looked at the manual, but one plug is to drain the radiator and the other is to drain the engine block and is located on the back. that plug is actually a bolt with a nipple on it. attach a length of hose and loosen the bolt.
