contemplating mods...

I'm contemplating putting mods on my 01 cl type s, thinking about intake and exhaust, any suggestions as to the best product and best buy as well as what will make the most improvement. Also how big of a difference has intake made for u all?

From my own personal experience i went with the Comptech Icebox. The really only other two contenders would be the AEM CAI or an Injen intake. Dyno shows the Icebox makes 7-8hp.

As far as exhaust i again went with the one from Comptech. Now theres can be bought as an axleback piece or instead you could buy their complete cat back system. Any aftermarket exhaust on the CL is going to really only be good for looks and sound as the stock exhaust is already very free flowing right from the factory.

If you decide to go with forced induction such as a Supercharger or a custom turbo going with a full cat back exhaust would yield better hp/tq numbers.

The Search button would be great here also as you can find a lot of info there.

Also check out www.c-c-c.net for some great prices on these products.

intake makes a small difference. nothing really significant but then again its cheap. I think dollar for dollar its the best bang for the buck. AEM cold air intake is pretty good, and screams in vtec. Comptech ice box might give an extra hp or two over the AEM, is a little more expensive, and a little quieter. Looks stock too, the aem is obviously aftermarket.

I wouldn't do exhaust, unless you want to change up the sound. The stock exhaust is pretty good....the gain from aftermarket is minimal. Expensive too.

Comptech headers are the way to go for real gains, then do b pipe.

*edit* damn you chaptorial beat me to it

I would say get the intake and headers which will give you the best hp gain... as chap has said, an after market exhaust will be good only for sound...

headers you have couple of choices like comptech, obx, etc. I would recommend comptech, since they are made perfectly for the car... haven't heard of anyone having a problem with them... OBX cost less, but few member had a problem with the fitment.. They do yield the same amount of power...

Intake wise you have aem v2, and the regular cold air intake. Myself i went with the comptech icebox.

Hope that helps

do the intake first. Either rip out the resonator and put in a $40 K&N filter, or buy a cold air intake like AEM $200.
Then get some PIAA or Polarg M6 bulbs to change out the nasty looking stock ones in your Road lamps. Then buy headers. After you do these, then come back for further instructions.

that's what I'm doing on my 6 speed,
ordered CT springs and CAI today. probably won't do headers, may do sways. This car needs more help with handling than speed IMO. plan to upsize tires and rims later.

definitely agree with you about the handling help over the speed help, so easy to lose control... do the springs make a huge difference or what? because if so i'm getting them right away.

This is what i'm doing: H&R Sport Springs, Eibach Sways, Ice Box, CT Strut bar, CT headers....remember suspension is more important than performance, cause you can have all the engine upgrades and end up having a shitty suspension then lose control in a turn...and run into a tree or a brand new corvette ::cough:CLeanB::cough::
