Consumer Reports on CL
The annual CR auto issue is out...
They gave the CL a pretty decent writeup but they stopped short of giving it a Recommended. (Mainly because they haven't actually reviewed a second gen CL yet...)
I thought this graph on Coupe reliability was interesting. The asterisk indicates vehicles that have been redesigned recently; only one or two model years have been used to rate it.

Did you see last month's issue? The article was on "entry-level luxury" It reviewed the TL-S, and they liked it quite a bit. They thought the ride was too jittery, but they loved the engine power. Quickest of the group tested, to 60 MPH, and the best MPG even. I wish they would test the CL-S, although I'm not sure how different they would report.
Regarding the questions on the Mercedes' poor quality score, a couple of weeks ago I heard on a radio edition of the Wall Street Journal report, that an internal quality survey done by Mercedes in Europe, leaked to the press. The report showed Mercedes quality has been slipping as of late, even below that of GM's Opal division in Europe. They said GM's Opal had always been the most unreliable brand in Europe. I'm not quoting exactly here, but I'm almost positive that's how they worded it. My boss has an S500, and he has had several electrical problems with it. The M class SUV is also apparently plagued with problems too. I read about that in Consumer Reports too.

As for Mercedes, I've read that the "quality" goes in AFTER the car is built. Besides, they're connected to Chrysler. Enuf said.

being in a family with several mecedes , I can safely tell you that the quality has gotten a lot worse lately . The CLK had big quality issues when it first came out and probably still suffers from them . Several german car magazines basically came out and said quality wise it was a pos. I imagine they have gotten better now. but still , the germans had to lower their quality to be competitive . Otherwise all their cars would cost upwards of 80K.
and with the parts sharing they will begin with chrysler , it aint going to get any better. Plus they are so damn expensive to fix.
But they are not alone, pretty much every manufacturer is goign through the same thing . Take acura, the CL is no where near as good of a quality product as the legend was. times are changing and manufacturers are finding cheaper ways to do things.

my family had the '85 Mercedes 300TD station wagon, and that car was like a tank!!! that turbo diesel engine will last forever!! we had it for over 15 years with no problems whatsoever in over 130,000 miles!! o, the good 'ol days
I think what part of the problem, is, too, is the race to see who can put the most toys inside their cars. The more advanced and cutting edge, the more expensive things are to fix and the less tested they are for reliability.
The '85 mercedes was probably reliable because it was a tried and true car. Add in the automatic butt wipers and all the other gadgets that run with computers and you're bound to have problems.

My decision in bying Acura CL-S always amazes me!
One report said "it was boring reviewing the CL-S, as it is near perfect". All reports claim good experiences with the car!
Test drove BMW and Lexus, Acura was the one for me!
Went on a date yesterday and got great reviews by my passanger. She could not keep her eyes off the navi, and YES the bowling ball accents too (she said it was rare). Don't know if it was said in a good way. Prob. so since she was smiling.
Glad to be in the Acura family, for now!

Gabo3K,
I have had 2 Chevy's for over 2 years each and I never had a single issue with them- not even the rattles. And one of them was a Camaro SS. My wife has a 2001 Chevy Silverado Z-71 that is over a year old with no rattles and not a single issue.
Hmmm, if you put me in a Chevy, can it be a Z-06?
