Considering S/C

whats up fellas. I'm seriously considering a Comptech SC for my 03 type S auto. I have 52K miles on it. I was just wondering to all the SC veterans if it affects daily driving ability. Cause I still need to be able to drive 50 miles everyday to and from work, along with other errands. I would love the increase in power, but not if it sacrifices drivability and reliablility. All responces are welcome. Thanks guys.....

Also any warrenty info on this would be nice(experiences at ther dealership)

The dealership I frequent (Bridgewater Acura in NJ) did warranty work on my car just before I installed the charger and said they would still repair any part that wasn't damaged by the charger. I did build a good rapport with my local dealership's Service manager though as well as many of the techs at that dealership who all know my car and know me by name.

I installed the charger around the same mileage and my only problem now is my clutch is slipping when I get on it. I have a 6 speed however and don't have the glass tranny. if you had a 6 speed I would definetly say get it but I think you should wait til someone with an auto chimes in.

I have an auto and I have not had any problems at all with the blower. I dont drive my car that much but i can say that many people have had it installed on their auto and had no problems at all, especially in the long run. Comptech designed this blower so it can be drivable on a daily basis and for its consumers to not have to worry about it breaking down or malfunctioning.

I installed the SCer at 50K (automatic - 2001). I run the low boost pulley, and I don't feel I have compromised anything. There is a bypass valve in the SC, and at low engine speeds there is no boost and so it drives "normal". Your mileage will go to hell if you jump on it a lot, but on long trips, driving normal, I still get 25 mpg.

Be sure and install the tranny cooler. The transmission issues are related to design, not abuse, but better safe than sorry, and it is <$50.

Yeah that's cool but like most of the people in that thread already said, it's up to the owner of the car. Not that I'm trying to create an argument or even have a difference of opinion - the point is, particularly, with my posting of the Comptech SC link was to give the complete rundown of what would be required to get some serious results out of a CL S. If a person loves their CL S to the point of wanting to drop that kind of cash on their car, then they deserve to know the best route to modding their car.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows the VTEC engine was really designed to perform as is right off of the showroom floor, which is what Honda intended. You're going to have to drop some serious cash to get some real output of a Honda/Acura. At that point it's simply an issue of having a love for the car or simply moving up to the next level i.e. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes etc. But then, even when you baught one of those cars you'd end up wanting to mod that, so there's point to arguing the issue.

Personally, I don't believe in modding a car. At the most I may drop a CAI under the hood, maybe upgrade the suspension but I wouldn't make any serious mods. Hell, I love my CL S just the way it is - even the stock five star wheels. If I wanted more tq and hp I would have bought a 350Z or a Vette but I'm happy with what I have for now.

If you have a CompTech certified dealer install the supercharger, they are supposed to warranty it.

They will provide a warranty on the CompTech parts if you purchase and install it at the dealership.

As long as the ESM is securely attached you shouldn't have any drive ability issues.

There will be additional maintenance... checking the belt tension, cleaning the air filter regularly, monitoring fuel pressure, etc.

Oh and I averaged about 16 mpg with my supercharged CL with city driving.

16 MPG God damn what were you doing racing light to light?

I still manage over 20MPG with mixed driving.

I can't image my car any other way. Of course, I've only been SC, IC, max boost, etc. for a short time but everything was installed and running well. I strongly believe it is a personal choice that has to be thought of a "is the money I put into this worth it as far as making me happy and having fun". We all know cars are a bad investiment but investing in something you enjoy isn't always a bad thing. Just my two cents.

Being boosted is a blast. I highly recommend. Don't do it as an investment. Houses, property, stocks & bonds are investments. Modify your car if you have the excess funds and enjoy doing so. Monitarily - it's a loosing proposition. For personal satisfaction and enjoyment for me - it's well worth it.
