comptech icebox vs. AEM cold air

Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me out on this issue.

How does the comptech icebox relate to the aem coldair intake in terms of
performance/sound/issues with water?

thanks for the help

CT Icebox vs. AEM

CT Icebox= Not as loud, more HP

AEM= Louder than Icebox, less HP,

Conclusion:

I use to ask my self the same question...I think you will be more happy with the CT Icebox, more gains, yet it sounds aggresive too not as loud as the AEM though. I chose the Icebox and I'm glad I chose it. Its less maintainance...too.

To me intake is just an intake. I really don't think intake has such a gain.

It's a piece of pipe with a filter on the end. Aftermarket ones are less restrictive than stock and suck in cooler/denser air that contains more molecules of oxygen. That's about it.

However, there is a gain in power- and, however slight it may be, it's still quite noticeable.

By the way, if you don't mind (and/or enjoy) your VTEC sounding like a pissed off chainsaw, get the AEM. It sounds wicked and scares passengers and passerby's.

Actually, just go to ebay and get a cheap cold-air and get a good filter. It will save you well over 100 dollars and it's the same thing.

The AEM will roar on VTEC, and merely hiss when you are driving otherwise. The growl you hear from the G35, 350Z, etc is because of the engine design (larger displacement) and less sound deadning of the exhaust. You really can't emulate the sound because it's a completely different style of engineering. I mean, I really LOVE the way Ford V8's sound (All V8 Mustangs, regardless of year, sound completely wicked with an H-Pipe and flowmasters, IMHO) and it's impossible to emulate with a Chevy V8 (I hate the way these sound, they sound like they are falling apart).

That said, however, the CL sounds absolutely wicked when you pair the AEM intake with a GReddy EVO exhaust...it's lusty sounding, especially on VTEC.

Loud in what way? The 3.5 doesn't even make any noise. The exhaust in the G is a different story however.

Go with the Icebox. It still adds a noticeable sound, not nearly as much as the AEM though, but overall it keeps it looking like stock. plus you won't have to worry about "should i buy the bypass valve for the AEM" or not.

Same thing is true if both cars have an AEM. :P

Icebox is shown to produce a couple more HP than the AEM. This isn't enough to guarantee that you'll will with an Icebox each time.

Case in point. I beat guys with headers while I just had an Icebox. And their dyno results were higher than mine as well. When you get cars that are within a .5 sec of on eachother on the 1/4 mile it's always a drivers race.

However, where it does count is that your personal times will be slightly better with an Icebox than with an AEM.

Bottom line is that the Icebox is easier to maintain, sounds slightly louder than stock and produces a couple of HP more. I'd also bet that it would produce slightly better gas mileage since it's proven to be more efficient.

If you're in to show and sound, then AEM style CAIs are the way to go.

I'm sure if you got a supercharger/turbo, the gains with te icebox would be much more noticable than the AEM intake...So look for the long run too..I suggest the CT Icebox again because of maintainance... its less of a hassle compared to the AEM intake.

and just like Sidemarker said:

clean look/not noisy/better in heavy rain or flooded region the icebox is your choice
EDIT: Dont we have an archive comparing the 2....if not i guess its time to have one?

Pic of my "cheap" ebay intake with an AEM bypass valve. Does it really look THAT much different (functionally, not visually) from a real AEM??

I would get the AEM, the sound is extremely addicting.... Especially in a tunnel.... Dont get it cause you think it'll save you on gas, cause if anything, u'll waste more in gas.

just remove the factory air box and tie wrap a damn sock onto the open end. You'll get the best performance gains for the buck....LOL

Not quite.

Sock = more restrictive than even the factory air filter.
Also you'll be sucking in hot engine bay air.

But i'm sure you were just joking.
