Comptech Headers VS. AEM CAIs ! Race Results !

Last night So Cal Type-S and I had a little get together. we found a place to test each other's car and had a little fun.

mine's stock with AEM CAI, his car has Comptech headers, sway bars, springs installed.

after testing each other's car we decided to have a little race. because we couldn't really tell which one is faster.

the only difference on the weight part is that I had a full tank of fuel, and his car was out ! empty ! fuel light was on all the time. (cheater)

We did 3 runs actually. all from 0 to 70.

1st run, I forgot to turn the VSA off. (stupid !) and so I lost.

2nd run, Bad launch for me again, wheel spun longer than he did, so he took off. with 2/3 car length a head of me before we both hit our breaks.

3rd run, my best run actually. during the acceleration, he's 1/2 car length a head of me. but when we accelerated up to 60 I was catching up a little bit.

Result ? I lost three times. but ! it was a really close race. especially with the 3rd race. and the Comptech Header IS faster than the AEM CAI, by about half car length.

I only wish we had a stock car with us, so we can really compare the differences.

and as for my personal opinions for the Comptech sway bars.
damn, they are awesome !
the handling improved so much compare to mine car.

PS: Any stock CL-S owner in So-Cal want to join us next weekend ? I don't wanna make it a big scene coz we actually raced in a school parking lot. wouldn't wanna invite the school police to join us.

rurofan's cai is pretty interesting. it actually makes an s shape, so the filter does not point down, but rather, the bottom of the filter is facing the front of the car. if there was better lighting i really would like to check it out, but i'll let rurofan confirm this since it's his own car .

so, if this is correct, then that would mean the modified tl aem cai, and xypher cai, is different from the actual type s aem cai, since they point straight down, and the bottom of the filter is facing the bottom of the car.

riding in the stock suspension, rurofan, is definately different, from my car, as rurofan can attest. definately softer.

sorry i had to leave so quick james. we'll get some drinks next time. bring more girls next time. haha

Where you guys at in So Cal? I'm in San Luis Obispo....the central coast. If you're not too far away, I'd like to check out your rides. I have a stock CLS and when I have time/money, I plan to install headers, sways, and a CAI.

Hey, not a problem. but next time you are the one who should bring the girls. My girlfriend is actually the only girl I'm allowed to hang out with.

and yes, you're right. the AEM CAI is facing forward instead of facing down. as for some people said the height for my bypass value is too low. you know I wouldn't worry about it because I would never drive over some water that reaches my bumper, and still my bypass value is 5 inches higher than my filter.

clevie, nice of you wanted to join us. but you're too far. We're actually located at the Los Angeles area.

Just installed my AEM on Saturday...my first car and hence first Cai so it took me like 5 hours...kept double and triple checking stuff as well as numerous readjustings, and if i had better tools would have probably taken me less time. got the blue one...love opening the hood and seeing that shiny blue...it is in fact the shape of an S and was surprised when people said other cai's just go down...is aem's a better design because of this?...the filter is like a couple inches from the inside front bumper....been raining the last couple days so havent really tested the cai out...but sound wise the growl is freakin amazing once you hit vtec land...can't wait to drive home!!!

Ok, so far we've got me. (CL-S w/AEM CAI)

So Cal Type-S, (CL-S w/Comptech Headers, Sway bars, Springs)

Akim711, (CL-P)

Iridium130, (CL-S w/Xephyr CAI).

still we don't have a stock CL-S to compare with.

Anybody think this is too much people ?
we'll probably attract the school police with these amount of people.

but I wouldn't wanna leave out anybody though.

or maybe we should do it at Pomona then ? I heard they've got some real nice long roads there. Just don't know where.

and all of you people above. please reply and share your opinions. m'kay ?

I wonder is the AEM unit was built this way to help insure that the filter element would not hit a bolt in the frame. There is one that may be close to rubbing the filter if not properly restrained.

As for induction benefits, I doubt there are any that could be noticed. It is probably a fitment benefit.

Ha, sorry Mike.

okay, now we've also got Mike (Stock CL-S)
and CLpopwer (1st Gen CL)

I guess we could still do it.

but the parking lot only allows us to have one race at a time.

just have to watch out for the cops.

I guess they can not give you a ticket for just being there, right ?

SO !!! NOW LET'S DECIDE WHEN SHOULD WE DO IT !!!

I'm free on the whole weekend, so either day works for me.

the santa ana area would be a good choice, or maybe even ontario, since it's just up the 15 from san diego....we could use the edewanda streets
