Comptech Headers Amazing!

well i recieved my Comptech Headers on thursday and me and my friend put them on on Saturday.....the installation was a piece of cake....everything fit perfectly...there were no problems with the pipes not being long enough! the only problem was that we striped on of the bolts where the A-pipe meets the front header.....so we hadda saw the a-pipe....but i can allready tell it is faster...my friend has this tricked out 850 Turbo Volvo that usually hangs with me....but last night when we raced it was totally different.....i beat him by about 6 car lengths to 100....the performance gains are HELLA REAL! comptech it totally worth it! i wont be able to go to the track till febuary though....its closed till then!

When I put on my CompTech's last year, I noticed a hugh difference right away...especially in the upper RPM ranges. Enjoy.

i dont see why anyone with an automatic CL-S would even consider the Comptech headers anymore??? 1000 bucks? are you kidding me??? all the OBX haters are totally out of their minds, alot of us with OBX (including me) are putting them through rough winters with absolutely no problems, they look brand new, they perform just as good as any comptech headers, i just dont get it..

nicky?? why would you consider comptechs???? you dont need the CARB sticker in Illinois!!, im serious man, just get the obx, save the extra 700 bucks for something more usefull!!!

the superiority of comptechs welds is undeniable...the inclusion of CARB certification is helpful to those in CA....but there really is no reason under the sun at this point to consider them for a automatic CL-S.

not to mention the fact that OBX does include a lifetime warranty with its headers...so even if (as unlikely as it is) they break somehow, you are covered.

all i know is every time i look at my OBX headers when my car is on a lift or when i pop the hood, i just chuckle to myself because they look great, perform great and are holding up PERFECTLY to brutal winter conditions...and i have an extra 700 bucks in my pocket.

Just curious to hear other opinions on the OBX vs. Comptech header debate... I want headers on myu CL-S 6spd by Spring, but can't justify spending a grand on the Comptechs right now. From what I have heard, the OBX headers are great too, so why spend the extra 700 large?

unfortunately, you have no option....comptech is the only brand that makes headers specifically for the 6 speed CL-S

but if you had an automatic, its another story.

bottom line is this:

700 bucks buys you a CARB certification plaque and prettier welds

thats it

Quality issues aside, there’s STILL no DYNO proof that the OBX produces the same power as Comptech because everyone that is too cheap to pay for Comptech quality can’t come up with 50-bucks for a test.

what about peace of mind? What's that worth? When I can afford it, I'll choose the Comptechs over OBX simply because I trust Comptech products. They deal exclusively with Honda cars and they did the R&D for the headers. And I know there's a premium for the name too.

hahaha, well i think its safe to say that the fact that OBX headers dropped a half second from my 1/4 mile time and gave me 5 mph in trap speed is enough to prove to most people that the OBX are just as well-performing as the comptechs...

also shawn, if i had the money laying around to piss away on dyno sessions, i wouldve been able to afford the comptechs to begin with!!!

$80? You'll spend $300 on headers and can't/won't spend $80 in a dyno? You'll spend $40 or close too it for GTA vice city but not $80 on a dyno.

So where’s this “extra” 700 bucks you keep talking about then.

Just give it up jimcol711...if your gonna offer the other side of the coin, try to do it without bashing any brand headers (i.e. Comptech). If someone wants Comptechs, they want Comptechs. If someone wants OBX, they want OBX. If someone's unsure, we'll present them some basic info instead of name calling and calling other people cheap...*cough, cough* Shawn....Zapta. Everyone has their reason for getting what they want. Oh btw, I'm still waiting to see a dyno on the OBX

That blows! Well, I may have to wait a bit longer to get the Comptechs for my 6spd....

woah woah woah...

i did not bash comptechs at all, in fact i said that their welds are undeniably better and that you get the CARB sticker....i will be the first to say comptechs are great build quality....but in my mind, NO WAY are they worth the extra 700 bucks.

and the OBX bashers have no basis either, i mean, besides visual appearance, what indicates their supposedly horrible quality? mine are holding up PERFECTLY, we have not seen A SINGLE thread here, on a-tl.com or on av6.com about ANY issues of OBX headers breaking or rusting, etc....there have been a few fitment issues (i had some myself) but nothing MAJOR.

bottom line is that the OBX headers represent the ABSOLUTE best bang for the buck mod EVER for the CL-S

i will definately agree that comptech makes a "visually superior" set of headers, but other than that, i cant see why they are so much better than OBX. ESPECIALLY not 700 dollars better.

Isn't jimcol711 the same guy who says you NEVER need an alignment after installing Comptech springs? Yeah, I'll risk shreding a pair of $200 tires because I'm too cheap to get an $80 alignment.

I really don't see the big deal, when many of us bought a 2001 or 2002 CL, Comptech was the only option so at that moment there was no alternative. If I was outside of CA and was buying headers today I would probably consider the Comptech knockoffs.

Actually Comptech also builds Chevrolet V8 Engines for the IRL as well.

Comptech works directly with Honda/Acura...and I've NEVER heard any horror stories about the Comptech headers on. When I DO buy the headers...they will be Comptech!

This is probably a stupid question that has been asked and answered somewhere- sorry if so.

Does installing the headers (either kind, don't know enuff to get into that debate) void the warranty?

Spoon headers for 4 cyl are 1000 bucks! Kias and Hyundais 100,000
mile warranty. Guess I should buy a Hyundai! Everyone needs to decide for themselves what they can afford to purchase. If you can I would buy the best header. Personally, I don't want to have any header problems and believe me people have had plenty of headaches over poor quality headers. I buy only Hooker super comps for my race car. No there are no warranty problems if you buy headers.
Took awhile before I caved and bought the Comptech's but wow am sure glad that I did! Hit VTEC and you hear a race-like growl!

This is getting pretty good. I am thinking about buying headers in the near future so all this info is great. How is cust. service and warranties on both headers. They both play important roles in my buying.
