Comptech general question

I have a general and stupid question about Comptech. I didn't know if I should post it here or in the Comptech performance section. My question is simple...

If I want to lower my car, do I want Comptech springs or the whole strut? I don't want sways...they just tighten my handling, right?

If someone could lead me in the right direction with either an answer or a link. I will do a search right after I submit this post.
Thanks.

yes, you are going to need Comptech springs and you are also going to need shocks too... If you want to go lower than 1.5" in the front and 1.0" in the rear, you will need to go with another brand of springs...

What is the general consenus of what is the right measurement of drop? I know it's a matter of personal preference, but is there a visual difference with a one inch drop in front and one-half in rear?

Can some of you post some pics of your 2nd gen CL's with drops and list the measurement of drop in the front and rear, please?
Thanks.

Nothing personal to some of you out there, but I don't want to drop it too much. I don't want a lowrider look or anything like that. I just don't like the "4X4" stock look that my CL has.

Just enough of a drop to be noticeable is good for me.

You can use Comptech Springs with your stock shocks. But if you have the extra cash then i say change it all while you are at it.

Lots of people have comptech springs, try doing a search in the car gallery for "comptech"

Thanks for the great suggestion. I performed a search for "Comptech" in the gallery just as you suggested. When I selected posts, though, all the pictures were moved from there hosting sites. So the pics were all X'ed out.

Can those of you who have your CL's lowered please post some pics and let me know what kind of springs/struts were used and what the drop what, front and back. Thanx.

Especially those who have lowered your Cl and kept the stock rims on them. Thank you, guys!

I have had Comptech springs on for about 10k w/ my stock struts...no problems. If all u want is a slightly lower stance...just replace the springs. No need to do struts unless you want the high performance feel of struts. In all honesty...my ride quality really didn't change w/ just springs. Hope this helps. Check the gallery or do a search for pics.

Thanks Ant7701. Your comments helped tremendously. If I go that route, should I get an alignment afterwards? You said that you have had NO problems for 10K miles. Did you do anything besides have them installed. Should I being looking for anything specific?

Thanks again. And thanks Blader for the great pics. I LOVE the Anthracite color. I wanted that color until my dealership got in the Aegean Blue that I bought. Blader, did your shocks drop the car anymore than the springs, or did you have them both installed at the same time?

One more question...

As I understand, the Comptech springs give a "raked" look (front end is lower than backend). I saw pics of this on the "Extremely Useful Topics" forum. That is fine, but a lot of the time when I look at my CL on level ground, the back looks lower than the front by just a little bit, (Like it is squatting). Is that normal??? And if I go with Comptech, will it even out my front and rear drop or will I still have the "raked" look?

Park Ave Acura told me installation would be free for the shocks if I did it at the same time as the springs. So I had them done at the same time.

Your absolutely right. Stock, my car was higher in the front than it was in the back. With the comptech, as you can see in my pics, my front has a tad of a "rake". So it reverses the stock look and lowers the car.

I have the CT drop and stock shocks. You bounce a bit over bumps but overall, I'll wait until the stock shocks die until I buy my Koni yellows.

I didn't notice if I was leaning back before I got the CT drop but now it is nearly flat or perhaps just barely raked forward. The CT drop is perfect, will pass inspection, and gives the car a lot more cred in my opinion. Go for it. Ask Dean in the CT forum if you decide to buy them.

defintily do an alignment after installation. The car will be slightly raked...check out the middle pic above and you can somewhat see what I mean. As far as the struts...yeah they'll be free of charge cause u have to remove them as well to change the springs...but remember you'll have to pay for the struts themselves. Also you might not like the ride of the new struts...thats wjy most people buy the adjustable ones which can cost a pretty penny. No camber kit will be needed for Comptech springs but like I said you will need an alignment afterwards. Get some more pics of the comptech spring drop to make sure you will like the stance. Good luck.

I have carefully read all of the posts and am grateful for all your advice. But I think I still need a little more guidance.

Remember, I am not knowledgeable about cars. I was thinking of just buying the Comptech springs and using the stock shocks. But then I read that some dealerships will install Comptech springs and the shocks for the same install price as just the springs...because they have to do the same procedures for just the springs.

Now I wondering if I should look into both Comptech springs and shocks...but I see the word "struts" on some posts too. Are struts and shocks the same thing??? And can I buy Comptech shocks...or struts that include the springs also. (I'm confused) If so, what is the price for new ones. I was on the Comptech website and saw just the springs for $299. I didn't see a listing for springs and struts, or shocks for that matter. Can you guys help me out and guide me again with baby-steps. I just want to be informed before I go out this spring and spend cash on these types of mods.
Thanks.

Shocks = Struts when talking about all corners. Struts are located in the front when talking about them individually. Shocks are in the rear.

Sorry, but not to confuse you. CT does not make shocks/struts. You can get them somewhere else such as Shox.com

When shopping around, struts/shocks usually come in two (or three) combinations, as a set of 4 (all corners), front and rear pair ONLY, or individually (TireRack). Buying all 4 at the same time of course is wise and cheapest.

Me, I'm looking into getting a Koni/Eibach Pro Kit or H&R/Bilstein combo. Plus a CT Sway kit. Believe me, once you have sway bars on my car, you'll smile ear to ear and never go back (all of my cars have em).
