first thanks to abp02type s for a great sale. exhaust came in today and couldn't want a second to put them on. had 2 jack stands, 2 OEM jacks, and 1 hydraulic jack. first i jacked up the front and rested it on jack stands. then i jacked up the rear and used OEM jacks to support it cause i didn't have any more jackstands. worked pretty well tho. i had a good fight trying to get the rubber grommets off, but the rest of the bolts and nuts were pretty easy to get off with a spray of wd-40. everything came together nicely and i'm very pleased with the quality of comptech's exhaust. it's a nice deep tone. took about 1.5 hours for the whole removal and installation.

my jet-hot comptech headers should be coming within the next 1-2 weeks. OE thermoblock spacers have arrived. just have to find some time to install them.

I've been researching exhausts and i also heard that the magnaflows have a good tone...

We get pulled over alot just by our exhaust notes so im trying to see which exhaust is the best that gives me a little growl but not so loud that my car sounds like its screaming down the streets when put it in WOOT....i already have a CAI to make most of the noise...

also how does regular ride sound...

 

the stock mufflers arent exactly quiet, i'm running the comptech b-pipe w/ oem mufflers and my exhaust is pretty damn loud. nice diy, my 01 was rusted to hell.

 

Comptechs are quiet at idle, and deeper and throatier at WOT, never loud though. If you ever feel it is too loud you can get the quiet tip inserts. But the AEM CAI will overpower the exhaust, at least the Comptech one.

 

I wnat comptech too but i'm just a broke college student on a budget. Congrats on the exhaust.

 

Quiet tip inserts are a waste of $$. I had them. They totaly takes the sound away from the CT's. Sounds like stock. Why spend the $$ for CT's then make them quiet? Might as well just keep the stock ones.

 

I always like the circular tips of the Comptech's...I had the Thermal R&D, but they were more oval...very install, hope you enjoy them

 

to me, it's pretty quiet in sport shift, just a bit louder than stock, sounds like a faint mOoOOooOOoO when in D5, you can hear the exhaust a lot more, but it's not loud, like excelerate said.

the exhaust tips and the shiny muffler definitely gives the car a different look.

 

is that full catback i see?

I've been told the b-pipe actually cuts down on the mooing.

I took my APEX'I off and went for axle back custom piping. The mufflers just didn't fit right with the car.

 

Congrats on the new CT mufflers... they look great. I notice that mine now have some rust spots on them... I thought that stainless didn't rust? Maybe its the tough winters here and the salt!

Has anyone else noticed that they get louder over time? Mine are almost 2 years old and they are definately louder than when I got them.

 

Im not a big fan of the loud exhaust since after my old car, But i just like the look of the shiny mufflers. So after reading this thread im really thinking about getting some of these in the future. Dose the sound start getting on your nerves after a long drive? , Do you think there loud enough for a cop to pull you over for them ?

 

nope, it doesn't get irritating at all. at least not to me. it's not loud to the point where people would think, "damn, that's rice." or too soft that it's not audible. but this is still with stock headers. my new headers should arrive in 4 days. once i get it installed, i'll try to get some sound clips. or maybe you there are some sound clips somewhere in az.

 

does this exhaust sound as good as it looks

 

I was kind of hoping for the exhaust note similar to the G35 coupe... but this is not as nice. I had this CT exhaust on my 5AT before I moved it to this car and at highway speeds I found the "drone" really irritating, especially since it was at the speed I like to cruise at. Fortunately the gearing on the 6MT is different and I do not have the drone at my preferred cruising speed.

It is definately not loud enough to get pulled over for.
