Comptech Closing!!
Exactly! I've seen LOTS of performance parts places come and go and I've NEVER seen a close out sale. People start trying to charge a premium for the few remaining products. You won't see a sale.
Yep, just called CompTech myself and have it confirmed that they are going out of biz. You will have a hard time getting anyone to answer but I have it confirmed that yes, they are closing with only a few employees now left. No sale form what I heard, but the parts woiuld not be thrown out so....hmm.
Any of you in So Cal can go see them - they are north of San Diego.

who told you that they were located in southern california? i highly doubt that. From everything i've heard/read comptech was located in norcal.
it even says so on their website:
Comptech USA
4717 Golden Foothill Parkway
El Dorado Hills, CA 95762
I was unable to get someone on the phone but I do have one question. As mention in an above post the suppercharger does need to be rebuilt. Does anyone have any ideas as to what that would require and how do we get the parts?
ahh noooo, i was planning on getting a CLS-6 Icebox this summer
glad i got the sway bars (though i could've bought other brands), but i really wanted the icebox since others are too noisy for my taste

There will be another company to come out and take their place! Hell the only comptech device I have on my car is my drop and their are plenty other companys that make other good products!
That was part of the point to my post. If Comptech isn't around, there should be service kits sold to address rebuilds of their supercharger. In the meantime, I am trying to locate a shop in MD/Northern VA that has worked on supercharged Honda/Acuras besides the dealer.
I am getting hosed out of my icebox warranty. The bottom screws were turning in place and for the past 6 months I have been trying to get Nate from Comptech to replace it..
He wouldn't budge, so it serves them right to be going out of business with a business mentality like that.
This is what they get for years of overpricing their product and forcing people to look elsewhere for similar products.

I dont care what anyone says. I have heard every justification under the sun for there prices here on the board for the last 5 years and I still dont buy it. Their prices are rediculous! I still think it is a big loss for the CL community but someone will fill the void, hopefully with better pricing. I will say that they took great care of me when they serviced my blower two months ago. I sent them my used blower and they sent it back to me looking brand new. It did cost a ton though. There labor rate is $110/hr. Dealerships here dont charge more than $80 at the most outragous end of the scale. The guy who started Comptech started it with his love for the NSX so maybe that is where the pricing stems from, a $95,000 car. I am going to call them very soon to inquire about future service for the blower and parts.
Their pricing in the area I'm use to, owned an SHO ($450 for a y-pipe, $800 exhaust, etc). When you have an engine and configuration that aren't super common like the Mustang or Civic, you're going to have higher prices for performance parts. They don't look to be a huge operation so they likely make the parts in small runs which costs more. They're willing to jump into a market they know isn't going to ever be big and put the money into R&D and selling the products. Obviously if they're going outta biz they weren't charging enough to stay afloat. I don't think you'll ever see decent pricing on parts for the CL. And I don't know if I'd hold my breath thinking someone else is gonna come in and take their place. It's a pretty small market with not a lot of profit to be made.
Is CompTech hibernating?
Good comments on economies of scale. CompTech has good quality, and with their specialization in Acura, their R&D and related costs could only be amortized over a small market forcing higher prices. Larger competitors who try to cover the market across a number of makes and models may have more business and able to spread their costs more evenly, but they usually end up offering across the board solutions which are not as well tailored to each application. Maybe I am mistaken, but from what I ahev seen no aftermarket performance parts supplier covers Acuras from intake to exhaust to suspension to... as does CompTech.
From what I have heard from retailers I would not be surprised if CompTech reorganizes and then reappears, maybe with a different partnership. Time will tell...

Well maybe that was there problem. They should've gotten some more invetsment and done R&D into other more popular cars so that they could stay in business in the market that they "love" if that's even true. All they had to do is make products for the D, B, H and K-series engines and they'd have alot more $$. They could've become the American version of Mugen, Spoon, JDM etc if they had done that. Artists sellout all the time so that they can get the money they need to keep doing the things that they love which is charging out the ass for their rare work.
not sure what you guys are talking about...
they sold products for: s2000, accord, civic, integra, rsx, nsx, tl, cl, tsx
thats not a broad enough range? they specialized in hondas, as do many companies.
edit: they also have an engine shop that does a lot of work. they were devloping products for the nsx as well as the ridgeline. they even offer (offered) a 3.5L nsx engine upgrade.

wingswest style, they will be bought out...
And they have such a presence in circuit racing (I think thats what kind) so maybe they will focus on only racing rather than retail, who knows, but that is such a waste, they couldn't even put the company up for sale and make a good amount of $$ to go out with.

I think the one to blame is HONDA CORPORATION for building WEAK transmission which altered Comptech ability to be successful amongst other things..... Their price was high because most would buy from them "once" and rarely return (like a bad rest. in town you go once and never return). I'm sure some company perhaps out of China will take on that business.....LOL
Now the dealerships will have ammo to "turn down" your vehicles dues to those mods no longer supported.......
Ole timer out......

I feel most people on this forum have atleast 1 or 2 Comptech parts on their car if their car is modded.
