Comptech Catback or Axleback

Hello,

i'm in the process of deciding on some aftermarket exhausts. I've seen a lot of member rides here with the comptechs and they look pretty good (although i still like the stock tips better). I'm just wondering how much gains are the cat backs vs axe backs and if the sounds are different? I want a nice deep tone to it.

any comments would be great.

thanks.

well i've heard that you don't really get that much gains unless you have some sort of FI in your car. I'm gonna guess you'll have like 5 hp or below gain.

I would say around 5 whp for the catback and 2-3 for just the axlebacks.

You won't really get any performance gains, they look and sound good. Unless you are gonna get the SC and headers, you should just go with the axelbacks.

Even with headers, you'll only going to get a few poines. Not much restriction in the stock CL exhaust. Just the mufflers, will get you a better lower tone. When you add the B-pipe(full cat back) you'll get an even deeper tone, & a little more interior drone noise. IMHO if your not doing FI, just get the axlebacks(mufflers)

Do you actually have to cut it off and weld it to the comptechs?? that would suck if i wanted to return the car to stock wouldn't it?

Yes that is what you do. Cut off the stock tips, cut off the CT tips & weld the stock ones in place. Only a few people have done that. I really see no need. I think the CT tips are fine. The mufflers are just bolt on. 2 bolts per muffler, & they are included.

Plus if you are gonna cut and weld stuff, don't do it to a set that costs as much as the CT's, buy a cheaper muffler for that. Just keep the CT's the way they are and you might also be able to sell your stock mufflers. Lots of people want 03 mufflers for their 01-02's.

If you want to go cheap, get the Comptech sound and don't mind welding, buy these off of E-bay.

Comptech is selling these to clear out old stock. If the size works for you, keep your tips and have the rest welded.

Just get the axleback, the catback is a waste of money IMO, for the $$ that it costs for the b pipe go get a set of obx headers(best bang for the $$). Exhaust is really meant for looks and sound and the catback I think is more for a complete FI package.....
