Compatible transmissions

Compatible transmissions
Hi all, new here.
Just bought an acura 2001 cl type s with an auto transmission. I knew these cars were fanous ir transmissions but it was a risk i was willing to take. All in all, im prepared to do a transmission swap on this car.
After reading a but of threads, i see that some other transmissions are compatible with the cl.
My question is which ones are compatible and is there any fabbing up that needs to be done.
Also which transmission would hold up the best from past experiences?
All help, advice an opinions are greatly appreciated.

Actually the 06-07 Honda accord v6 transmissions have been working the best for people on the tl side. I would either go with an 06 tl transmission or a 06-07 Honda accord v6 transmission. The gearing in the 06-07 Honda transmission makes it worth it for that reason alone. Fourth and fifth gear are shorter and I have been getting better fuel economy.

I agree with Stephen00TL, 06-07 Accord autos have been getting alot of good feedback. Maybe it's a few redesigned parts internally or just because they generally have lower mileage, but voting of the majority is usually the best way to go.
If you REALLY want a fail free design, do the MT swap instead. I'm not sure I've ever read/heard somebody say anything about one randomly just failing for no reason. In addition to that, you get the luxury of an LSD transaxle which allows for any engine modifications that add large amounts of power....given you can find (or afford) a strong enough clutch & flywheel.

Thanks for the replys everyone.
It seems that I will probably be going with 06-07 accord transmissions. I still dont understand how you get better gas mileage with shorter gears...that still puzzles me. But with shorter gears would mean faster acceleration right?
As nice as a manual swap would be, I have been down that road already, while it was fun and it was a success, it takes time which I dont have right now. My last car was manual swapped and my whole reason for getting the CL was that I wanted a coupe, something a little luxurious but still powerful and auto cause I sit in traffik way too much and manual just becomes a headache. I do about 2500km/week. I do an oil change every two sundays.

By not having to downshift into third when passing cars on the highway. Now I don't even have to drop out of fifth usually. Since I swapped the transmission I've been getting an extra 60-75 miles out of a tank in the city. Fourth is the gear that is much shorter. Fifth is just slightly shorter than a stock tl or fl transmission.

Its shorter, but not like loosing an extra gear shorter. Hell with the manual im 750 rpm higher on the highway yet i still get 30-32mpg at 80 just like i did with the auto.

The shorter gears help for better acceleration. When you hit fourth it still feels like its got tons of power instead of before it felt like you hit a brick wall because fourth was a dead gear.

Intredasting... so where does the 06 TL gearing fall?

thanks, i called a wrecker about one, going tomorrow to see about getting it!
I believe I read in another thread that some "tapping" may need to be done, everything is there and visible it just needs to be tapped to bolt up.
However I could be wrong, someone please correct me if I am. Either way I'm sure the people installing it can figure it out.

It's a direct bolt on no taping required. All you have to do is swap the entire oil cooler/warmer filter assembly on the top, the range switch, and the small third and fourth gear pressure witch harness. It's not that difficult its just time consuming.
