Comparing CL-S to the previous model CL

Every once in a while, car companies upgrade their model with so much improvement in performance and styling, it's almost like they create a whole new model line. The 2001 Acura CL-S is definitely one of them. Whenever I drove next to the old generation CL in the traffic, the difference is just way too much. I almost feel sorry for the other driver who is glancing my car with envy. I got mine in early March of last year and I was told that my car was one of the very first that arrived in this Silicon Valley. I never liked the previous model CL and I always thought that Accord EX V6 coupe was a much better buy. My CL-S is one of the best cars that I owned so far and I had owned quite a few nice cars before; Mercedes C280 sport, Audi A4 and Lexus ES300. My only complains so far are the rather soft ride, the huge turning radius in parking and the non-inspiring styling from the class "Japanese Coupe Design 101". I'm not sure long I'll keep my CL-S. I think it all depends how soon my company (in latest optical networking industry) go to IPO this year. When that happens, it's goodbye to CL-S and hello to Ferrari 360, 911 Turbo and AMG CL55. This damn stock market better turn around pretty soon. If not, I'll be start modifying my CL-S for a long term relationship.

Take a nap on ur stock options for 3-4 Qtr at least, does not look good, I am at heavy loss at the market. If Feds will drop another 100 by May then you may see some action. Otherwise, have a long nap on your stocks.
I hope ur private company is well funded, too.

Wow I'm suprised CLPower and the other old-gen-ers haven't spoken up yet. But yes I have to admit the new style is a vast improvement over the old one...not to flame or anything. Just IMO

At the rate our stocks are going now you better pull out while you can!!

Hmm...dunno I really like my car! Seriously though, the new CL is a whole lot better, but comeon...you're saying that the Accord v6 is better? This was a prototype of the accord, but I really like the styling of the CL a lot better then the accord. For some reason it seems that if you don't 'fixup' the accord in some way, it just doesn't look right. My sister has a CL-S and I really like it, but I already thought about trading in my car to upgrade to one. Decided not to because I like the more compact look of my CL. Just my .02

If I were to buy one now, I would go with the CL-S...but I already have a CL so..im good

The looks are not as much an issue to me as the performance is. The improvements in tech engineering are great. I'm sure that the next gen will smoke ours.

#1: you dont need to feel sorry for us,we love our cars. oh, and by the way its not necessarily envy.

Thats your opinion. The 1st gen CL had much to offer over the accord, in terms of std features, warranty, and styling. EVERYONE has an accord, we wanted something more unique.
if the 2nd gen CL was the available CL when i bought my car I can't say i would have bought it. (no offense everyone else who has a 2nd gen and DOESN'T feel sorry for us 1st Gens! )

I LOVED my 1st gen! I had a 98 2.3 5 speed and it was one helluva good car. My change to the 2nd gen was as a result of miles.

So....that being said, I will volunteer the following:

The 1st gen was a completely different automobile. It was a simmilar class in theroy, but I feel that the 1st gen was more of a sporty Luxury Coupe rather than a Grand-Touring Coupe. That's what kept it from selling in better numbers.

BTW, I think it was a great looking car...much more daring than my 2nd gen.

My .02.

Totally agreed. I love the new CL, but my CL definately is more distinctive, especially from the back. As far as being like the Accord, I test drove both and liked the CL better. The CL is always going to be based on the Accord platform, yours is too. Plus, the Honda dealership was filled with a bunch of jackasses, the Acura experience was better. I don't think you should feel bad for those still in a first gen., and I would say that 98% of those in the first gen are not envious of those in a new CL. They're nice, we like them, but that doesn't mean we sweat them. Most of the guys here had a 1st gen CL before they upgraded and they'll all tell you they loved it. Sure the difference between the 1st and 2nd gen. are huge, that's the point of redesigning it. You may want to reword what you're saying on here...especially for one of your first posts....

I liked the 1st gen when I first saw it. To tell the truth, it was far more distinctive looking compared to the accord, then now. Besides, if you bought the CL 3.0 it came out 2-3 years before Honda put it in the Accord. That was a major reason to buy that car instead of an Accord.

no comparison, new 2001 cl-s is the 2nd or 3rd nicest car in the honda acura arsenal. I like it better than the s2000 but well, the NSx is unreal. so as for the diff between this and the past, i hated the past, no offense to all of u that have it, i just hated the back side. Love my babies rear, check it out in my pics.
