Comparable Cars (realisticaly)

I just wanted to find out what cars we can realistically compare the CL type S to. Now I know there are some idiots out there that are going to list outrageous cars like an M5 540i, or Z28. Let's keep this as realistic as possible. I'll start it out.

*Integra Type R
*IS 300
*BMW 330ci
*95-98 Mustang GT (at least form the number I have seen)
*A4 possibly the S4
*some of the more modified 4cyl. rice burners

And if anyone objects to some of my beliefs, please feel free to challenge me or anyone listing on this topic.
(In regards to all performance aspects including but not limited to acceleration, suspension, HP, torque, etc.)

Compare in what way exactly?

Are you talking speed?

More specifically, 0-60 or 1/4 mile or top speed?

Or are you talking about comparing the cars in general?

My vote for the closest overall competition for the Type-S is the Pontiac Grand Prix

I traded a CL-S in on my Type R, and I can tell you that the only similarities between the two is 0-60 and 1/4 mile acceleration, I'd say they're very close. In every other aspect performance-wise, the Type R is just miles ahead, while on the flip side the CL-S has the Type R beat in every single imaginable way luxury-wise. I agree with someone who said the Grand Prix GTP is a close match with the CL-S. I've ridden in both and feel they're very similar, tho I did prefer the CL-S in both performance and luxury, of course it also costs a little more. Despite all the animosity between the 2 camps, the IS300 is also a car very close to the CL-S, more performance (handling, rear-wheel drive) and less luxury oriented.
The Maxima is another car I like very much, and compares well to the CL-S.

New cars for the list:
*Mercedes C320 (about the same $ as a 330ci)
*'02 Subaru WRX (I'm a big fan of this car)
*Chrysler 300M (Not too sure about the performance of these, but they seem solid)
*The new Mustangs that are out are decent cars, good performance for a decent price, and comfy compared to older versions.
*Lincoln LS

I'm sure there are more, but I'm just chipping these in.. my .02 cents

Type R = nimble but not much room for giants. Don't think you'll see Shaq in one...

heh heh... I think you'd see Shaq in a Type R before you'd see him in a CL-S. At least the ITR has no sunroof and hence more headroom than the CL-S. I'm 6'1" and I barely have enough headroom in this car. I fit in the ITR with much room to spare however. This is of course, talking front seats only.

A total comparison is probably the Maxima. Or may an A4. When I compare, I use price, performance, and luxury features as the major comparisons.

You know when you talk about realistic....you should x-out all the rice rockets..(ITR...Celica and any other 4 banger.)
Using a 10K target range of 30K-40K....you would have to say that the cars that are comparable are

Audi A4 2.8
S4<-----no options
C320<----questionable with options
BMW325, 525, or 330<----but very few options.
IS300<---almost fully loaded
S60<----but not a vey refined feel; turbochargered 4s aren't very civilized
I30<---your maxima with refinement

This is more from the point of view that you bought the CL, not as a race car, hence the deletion of rice rockets and muscle cars, but as what one magazine termed..." European GT cars.....fast, luxurious, and pretty good handlers"
Just my thoughts...

------------------
2001 Cl-S Black on Black with Navigation
Black Tint all around (15%~45%)
Weapon-R Dragon Filter
Weapon-R Coil-Overs
Koni Adjustable Struts
Comptech Sway Bars
(sooner than I thought...)
Comptech Headers

I feel that to get a true comparison you guys should only list other 2dr coupes, after all, that is what we have......

------------------
Sundance,Navi,
Spoiler, mflaps, wheel well trim, dark dark tint, nose mask, polarg m6's, lead foot
F250 SD 4x4
201 PE STRATOS w/225hp Johnson

IMO what we have is a 4 door sedan with 2 doors chopped off. The CL is exactly like the TL minus 2 doors and other minor things.

I just finished my car shopping and here are the cars I considered to be comparable:

325ic Coupe, I would say the 330ic but you're talking another 10 grand.

Lexus IS300, Though it does have four dours, it does have an electronic sport shifter and it is close in quickness.

Other than those two, for my taste I have to say that's it. American cars need about 10 more years to even begin to compete and the Sweedish cars, well let's just say I think they look too much like modern Brady Bunch cars. The Audi's are over-rated VW's and the Mercedes are about as sporty as a station wagon.

Dollar for Dollar, the Acura TL/CL Type S are the best cars to hit these shores. They are worth every penny, they have class and the prowness of a panther. IMO.
