Coins everywhere!! now what??

Hauling ass in the old CL last night and got the car a little airborne over a bump in the road. No biggie but it unsettled all the coins in my sudo ashtray. The coins went back behind the ashtray in the center console (the one that’s lined with red felt). Does this thing pop out because its jammed because of the change. I need to get behind there to pull out all the quarters and shit that’s stopping it from opening up easily. PLEASE don’t tell me I have to take the dash apart for this to happen.

Thanks

I don't have to..you might have trouble. What I do is use a small pick like the dentists use...only a snap-on one...open the coin holder door half way...look in w/ a flashlight above and below it...you can push the coins over and they will fall inside...you will loose some change but it will be free. No damage can be caused by the loose change inside the console and you won't get a rattle....good luck..

Are coins ferrous? If so a pocket magnet might fish em out.

carnut,
nope.

Chalky,
For lazy ppl solution, hit the side cover several times, the coins would either fall back in the tray or fall out.

If you wanna take care of it, remove the whole console and pick up the coin. For instruction, look at the sticky in A/V forum. And no, the tray does not pop out.

if you do take it apart, see if the '03 will fit in there. the new one has a little spring loaded flap.

I just hit the side a couple times and the coins fell, I also removed the cover for the OBD (ODB, whatever) scan port and I was able to fish some out.

I was told by an 'advisor' at the dealer that the coins which fall underneath the "coin-holder" can cause serious damage in the gearing/transmission department.

I really wonder where is goes tho... cos i've never seen an x-ray pic of a CL

I don't know how they could, cause if you remove the side panel of the center console, you can clearly see where all the coins fall - and I don't see how that would interfere w/ gearing.
