CLS6 constant rubbing in the front
CLS6 constant rubbing in the front
hello all, I have been dealing with this problem for a few months. I unexpectedly drove over a resurfacing in the road and ever since then I have been having the same issue in the front, both sides but seems to be worse on driver side. There is wear on both sides, on the inner fender liner and uneven wear on the inside of the tire. I have it lowered on Eibach springs and KYB AGX shocks. One of the shops noticed my left front assembly was loose, he tightened it back up and reinstalled the coil assembly. the noise continued, i got it aligned and that didn't seem to help much. took it to another shop and he couldn't find anything that could be causing the sound. He noticed my adjustable dampers weren't working as they should so he recommended maybe replacing the shocks as they could have been damaged in the impact. I replaced the shocks and that didn't fix it either. The problem has a bit of a personality, on cold mornings, it wouldn't make rubbing noises for a couple hundred feet, creeping up and getting louder as i continue. Sometimes it will go away all together and sometimes its as bad as its ever been. For the most part, its a constant rub as long as the wheel is moving, you can hear the tire rubbing. No vibrations out of the ordinary and drives straight. I suspect bushings need to be replaced as the car has over 215k miles but wasn't sure where I should start. and both shops said i should install the stock springs back in but id rather not, i like the low! Thank you in advance.
Reason being if the car is lowered & the lower arm bushings are factory originals, with 215K, there's a good chance one or more are perished?
The least expensive way is to just purchase #12; 16 OEM inner & outer lower arm bushings (made by KYB?) and press them in; however, if one or both #7; 9 arms have a slight bend, due to the road 'resurfacing' encounter, then you may still have liner rub symptoms?

While you are there the soft OEM radius rod bushings should be changed as well based on the mileage.
Some people have upgraded to Moog K9733 and I have installed the Energy Suspension 16.7103's (CL-S6) which will help 'stiffen' up the front as well.
If you want to save big $$ over OEM, research rockauto to purchase replacement parts, though, I would personally stay away from Moog & Mevotech.
