My friend's Maxima's mods include: intake, exhaust, port and polished head, reinforced engine block and internals, 120-150 shot NOS. This would most likely mean that he could hang with a stock CL-S, provided both aren't spraying.

The above assumption is incorrect. It does not work like that. Mods do not add or decreawse lineraly. Mechanical engineering is not that simple unfortunately.

Hey Tony, IS that you?? I thought your car was also a Cali emissions one. Were you able to get a y=pipe for it? I think a CL-S does a 1/4 in low 14's. It's pretty damn quick. BUt hey, forget about MAxima's and CL-S's. Did you hear about hte new 3.5 Litre Altima that's comming out this fall???? 3.5 Litre and it promises a 0-60 in 6.3 seconds( 5-sp). That beats any current maxima and is right on par with the cl-s 0-60. Whether you drive a Maxima or a CL-S (I have one of each BTW) getting beat by an altima will suck any way you slice it.

Prior to my CL-S, I was the proud owner of a beautiful 2000 Maxima se, 5 speed. It had the 17" wheel package and was a great car (until I wrecked it). In my opinion, the (stock) Maxima is not nearly as good as the (stock)CL-S, handling, straight line acceleration, interstate passing and overall quality are not as good. I will say the Maxima Bose system is far superior to the Acura system. I like both cars, but I would take the Acura CL-S over the Maxima in a heartbeat!
Also, from a respect standpoint from the general public - there is no comparison. The Acura commands a lot more respect - and is a better magnet of the opposite sex.

Is it true that the 2002 or 2003 Maximas will have an added 40 hp to keep up with the CL-S?

even if it does get a hp boost in 2002 or 2003, the tl is due for an update, probably in 2003 as a 2004 model. i'm sure there's gonna be an hp boost for it 'cuz how can you update a car without increasing hp? and then after that the cl.

Kevin,
Yep, it's me..Tony. I guess you haven't been following the availability of Maxima parts lately =) Stillen do have a Y-pipe for my cali-spec car now. It's been on the car for about 8 months now. It's a small increase on my car about 7hp and 10ft.tq. Yeah, I heard about the Altima and if you want the latest Altima info check this site out. www.nissannews.com Nissan is really trying to catch up. First the Sentra SE-R and now the Altima. I can't wait to see what they will come up with for the Maxima. The new Maxima is probably going to be too big for my taste. The new Altima is about the same size as the current 5th gen maxima.

Tony,
SO what happened with that stillen thing you had a problem with. some bushings or something??? Anyway I heard that maxima will retain the same body and get a 260 hp 3.5 liter. Also they are dumping the Maxima GXE, and hoping to have the Altima to fill that void.

Stillen would not sell me the missing parts. Stillen sucks and really don't care about their customers. I even offered to buy another set of camber plates if they would throw in the missing parts to complete the used set I picked up. To make the long story short, I had to drop $$$$ on a big brake kit for them to budge. I paid retail for the damn brake kit. For the same $, I could have picked up the Brembo kit.

Tony, I will be down at UVA this weekend, so I won't be able to make it to your house this sunday. I hate the pollen, sticks to my car like glue, good thing I have the cali duster to take it off.

Read somewhere that the 2002 Altima with the 3.5L V6 (240hp, 246 ft-lbs)can do 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds with the manual tranny... makes you wonder how much faster the Maxima will be when it has 260hp and a manual tranny.. damn!
