cls vs. mini cooper S

first off...this was at 2am and it was a deserted 4 lane highway so it was completely "safe." i was on my way home and I was about to pass a mini cooper S..(i noticed it had a body kit and rims too.) Anyways, I was trying to casually pass it when it was still staying side by side with me. So...at about 65 in 3rd i gunned it..and immediately pulled about 3 car lengths and got to 110. As you all know, our 4th gear is shit...He was still about 2 car lengths behind me in my rear view when i noticed he was still keeping up. I held 115-120 for about an eternity and was shocked when he passed me and put about 2 car lengths on me.

The cooper S is turbo correct? Even so, don't you think he must have had other mods to be able to reel me in and put space bw us? and damn...those things are quick

the mini cooper s is a 15 second car stock... and they have superchargers not turbos...they do run well on the hwy because of the light weigth but with your mods he should have never caught you...he probably has basic bolt ons...remember with superchargers you can easily add innexpensive mods to incrrease boost..the only have 168 hp stock so no way they keep up with you...my ex had one and she couldnt even see me and i have a cl-p

Yea they are supercharged and stock they are not fast at all, test drive one for the fun of it and it was slow, he must have been modded more a fait amount to pass u like that... or their 4th gears dont blow like ours does... but no u should have won that.

the only way that he could have caught up like that is NOS... even if he had bolt ons...if u have two cars on him there is no way he would catch up and never mind put 2 cars on you while you are still flooring it...he had to be spraying...

I looked into getting one and the john cooper works package comes from the dealer at 200 something at the wheels from the factory. If he had this then he definately could have beat him. It's not a ferrari but for the price with the jcw package it can surprise alot of people.

I totally agree power to weight ratio really played a factor here I think. They can suprise a lot of cars from a roll.

4th sucks in the quarter mile, but c'mon.... At 115+ I gotta think that it would have helped you really grow legs!

I know that a mini will beat a CL-S auto crossing, but it should not beat you in a top end battle. He must have had some serious mods under the hood.

i was just shocked at he pulled me in and put space bw us at such high speeds. i would think having a the car with the bigger engine would be able to pull away at these speeds. i guess he did have to be spraying to pass me, cuz i shoulda kept the lead...needless to say i was very impressed with his car, and upset at how long it took me, or lack thereof to pass the 120 mark.

I highly doubt he had a lot of mods, you can get a factory upgraded supercharger as an option when you purchase, 32k out the door for it. My friend has one, and with all my mods, i can beat him from a 40+ roll, but he always pulls me off the line. At those speeds, i would have no problem believing he could pull on you.

I think it's 200 'crank' hp, not at the wheels. I saw one at the drags and it ran high-14's all day. 200 at the wheels should get that thing easily into the low 14's or even dip into the 13's.

Look at the sig in the profile for my mods, the cooperS has an intake only plus the factory upgraded supercharger.

The mini cooper S can be made pretty damn fast for pretty cheap IMO. You can increase the hp to around 240 for under $5k.

There are a TON of mods for them.

I think it was the driver too. If you were punching at 115mph and he was about 10 to 15 feet behind you he was doing a damn good job of drafting you. That in mind, he could have just punched it, got a run on you from behind, then passed you... Just a thought from a different perspective.

my dad has a mini cooper S and its a lot of fun to drive through the curves and backroads because of its low center of gravity and lightweight design...ive driven it twice and had a lot of fun, and the gearbox is awesome too!! but my dad is the ONLY person on this planet i will let drive my CL-S cuz he taught me to drive a stick and i know he knows what hes doing..

and he came up to see me for the weekend a couple weeks ago and he drove my CL-S and loved it, he loved my acura legend coupe too but he said that my CL-S is the best car hes ever driven FOR THE MONEY, hes a previous porsche n bmw owner and said that when it comes to bang for the buck my car is phenomenol..so i had to ask him "how do think it'd hold up against ur cooper S?" and he said that my car would smoke his mini, as i said before tho he agreed that if it were through a bunch of turns my FWD would kill me and he'd be able to beat me, but in a straight up race he was adament that my CL-S would smoke him in his cooper S..

with all that said, the guy musta had some serious mods for him to be able to beat u like that at such high speeds on a straight away.

You all do know that there is two types of CooperS right? The base cooperS comes with a blower that is very small, the upgraded CooperS (31k new) has a larger blower unit, that can easily pull a TLS. With a few cheap mods like a new blower belt and intake, it can take a modded TLS. I have a TLP with intake, headers, pulleys, spacers, exhaust, iridiums, grounding kit, etc...so i am technically faster than a type S. I pulled my friends cooperS by a carlength from a dead stop, but if we are rolling he takes me every time. I only beat him from a stop due to traction. His new belt is being installed monday, as well as a new exhaust system. I'll post the results in 2 weeks or so if we go again.

Ok,well if you had a type s and all your mods, a mini-s would be no problem from highway speeds. You also get a new pulley and the mini couldnt do a thing.

all i know is that gaining 2+ car lengths on him from about 65-120 mph, he easily passed me and put distance from there on.

someone said that our car sucks in the quarter mile...

they are never supposed to get into fourth before the end of the ET. they are supposed to do their thing in the first three gears.
