CLS vs CLS

I will cut to the chase. Matt and I wanted to see if the UniChip made any difference. The only thing that we wish we could have done prior to this was to do the same tests before I got the chip. So now, the only thing we have to really compare too is from the heads up race at the Drag strip when Matt completely destroyed me off the line, and rest was history.. (mid 15's (me) vs mid 14's (Matt))

Note: all of our runs were on back roads by my place. Not too many cars there.

Here are the performance specs. Matt, please correct me if I'm off.

Matt:

H/I/Evo Cat back E/P with light weight rims and overall size of the tire diamter is smaller than stock.

Also, do you have your rear 6x9's taken out still?

Me:

H/I/CT E/Chip with 19's C5 and slightly bigger tires. 235/35 instead of the 215/35s.

The extra weight I might have over Matt's car are the following. TL kit, Rims, Stero system with heavier speakers than stock, and Driver.

So we think there's about well over 100lb of difference between his car and mine.

Run #1.

From 2nd in SS mode, I think we shut down at about 100mph. Matt had about half of car on me.

Run #2.

We did SS in third gear from very low RPM range (2K) to see if the overall gain was there. Again, the result was very similar. Execpt Matt knows his CL a lot better than I do mine, so when I was shifting in SS, I bounce off the rev limiter a couple of times before I shifted. But overall I kept up with him pretty well. He was slightly pulling a head before the shift.

Run #3.

From a stop at a red light. Again, my lack of reaction time has kill the run completely. Matt put a few cars on me by the time we shut down.

Run #4.

We just decide to pase each other then hit it on the 3rd hunk, didn't really pay any attention to what gear and speed. I was in D4. This time Matt put about a whole car on me by the time we shut down. Damn, I sware his car was going faster and faster after each run.

Run #5. Last Run.. switch driver.

I think we were both in D4 and hit it again on the 3rd hunk. I thought I have him, but the weird thing was that, our cars pase each other the whole time, and Matt might have had me by a bumper at the end. So the only thing I can conclude is that maybe it's just me.. :'( (btw, After driving Matt's car, I can say for sure that his Vtec revs faster than mine.. I need to get some pulleys, and lighter rims.)

Anyway, I think both Matt and I agree that the Chip definatly is working. Because I think with the Mods and weight difference, he could have easily walked on me on all 5 runs in the past. The next thing to test is for him to get the chip and run at the track to find out if he can break into the 13's.

i was impressed by the way Brians' car ran w/ the chip installed. he was able to stay right with me from a roll. when we switched cars i pulled half a car on him and he couldn't reel me in.

from a stop, my light weight wheels and grippier tires had an advantage, as expected. i also had a little quicker reaction time.

bottom line, the chip definately makes a difference. when we raced at the dragstrip i beat him pretty badly, but now we're neck and neck from a roll.

just the wheel and tire combo difference between us should have me putting a car length or 2 on him, not to mention i have the full ur pulley set and full cat back.

hopefully we can get his car set up so he can switch back and forth between chipped setting and stock settings, then we'll do some more testing.

What kind of rims do u have Mattg. I plan on getting a similar setup to yours for my car minues the catback. What kind of times do you pull? Do you think the SSR GT1s in 17's will help me in performance over stock rims?

my car ~ ur pulley set, aem cai, ct headers, greddy evo cat back, 18" wheels 16lbs, 225/40-18 yokohama parada spec2.

brians car ~ unichip, injen cai, ct headers, ct mufflers, 19" wheels 23lbs, 235/35-19 toyo fz4.

looking at the mod list, i should murder him w/o the unichip.

I guess a before and after dyno would be too much to ask for?

i have the centerline rpm, 18x7. they weigh in at 16lbs. my quickest times are 14.1's @ over 99 mph. my average runs are in the 14.3-4 range.

the 17" gt1's will definately help over stock. possibly good for a 1/10th or 2.

Wow. I still woulda thoughts matt's car would have been superior after knowing the mod and weight issues, but wow. I'm pretty darn impressed by this...

For sure... I'd like to get a set of lighter rims and see how I do at the track next season... Maybe by then, I will have the b-pipe and pullies too.
