cls vs audi s4
I was just driving along on 495 in nova doing around 80 he pulls along side and stays there for a sec then pulls, slows again and pull. I'm like ok next time he goes I will follow, he pulls and I have a hard time keeping up. So I eventually caught him, we get to the mixing bowl and we both pull this time I had a chance to get to 3rd gear, he pulls slightly but I keep up. We hit traffic slow to about 60 get in the clear and Im infront and pull as hard as I can, he was right behind me getting ready to try to pass and we hit about 110 then I leave him and a 1st gen TL joins in. I finally let off about 120 and left him to battle with the tl. I think he had some kind of engine mods just the way the car sounded, it had a deep growl but not as drastic as a cold air intake or something. Oh well atleast I got him at the higher speeds.

Sounds like you didn't get him at all? The S4 is a monster. I have seen some playing on the highway and I wouldn't try to beat on in my automatic.

Sorry man, I'm with blackmagicCL_S. I ran an S4 and got hammered, not even close. In stock form, the S4 will eat the CL. If he was indeed modded, you had no chance. I've got to say that I don't think he was really trying...not trying to flame you or anything, but you won't ever win a go with an S4.

stock s4 auto vs. stock cls auto = cls has slight edge
man vs. man, cl still has it.
but there are a million more mods avail for s4, so if it has some mods than its over.
good run!

If it did, i know who he is and he was playing with you, if not must of been an auto.
Oh yeah and have u ever ran against a blue gti on 95 and 495?

The blue S4 with VA tags that reads S4SPEED is a good friend of mine...monster car! He pulls on E46 M3's all day long.

Not saying that we could ALWAYS beat an S4, but in stock form it wouldn't be that bad of a race from a roll. Trouble is, alot of S4's aren't stock...

still a Masshole
Stock for stock the cars are closer then most think (CLS vs S4). Manual S4s will be faster than a CLS but not blow them away. I've been to the track with S4s and 2.7T A6s and the stock ones did not blow me away at all. Most were faster but not by much. I think most ran in the 14.4 - 15.5 range while I ran a 15.2. This was in the summer so I am sure the colder whether would help both cars (although I believe the turbos would benefit more). I went with the NE audi club so there were plenty so them there (I was the only TLS/CLS there). On the ride up to the track I caravaned with 2-3 S4s and 1-2 A4s. One S4 (stock) and I played a little and he was a tad faster but by no means blowing me away.
As someone said, S4s are easy and cheap to mod with tremendous results. I would also assume that a good number of S4s are not stock. Once modded those cars are monsters! Wish I could get my hands on one!

That is a source of S4 times and various stages of mods.
Most of the time the Stock S4 6 speed runs 14.1-14.4's. Some have run higher also even 15's!!
Stock S4 Tiptronics run 14.6-14.8 consistently. One ran at Pomona Drags in 94 degree heat a 14.8.
The S4's pull well to their limitier of 143mph
Auto to auto the cars are pretty well matched. Stock S4 tip weighs in at ~3700lbs.
Manual to manual pretty well matched. The best S4 run vs the best CL-S 6 speed run I think the S4 has a slight advantage. But,,, contrary to belief, its kinda hard to get that perfect launch with the quattro. To slow and you bog badly, too high and there goes the clutch, but just right it reallys jumps forward.
The Tiptronic sucks off the line-end of story. It can only rev to 2300rpms under brakeing for the launch. 60' times kill it. After that though, it really moves out.
A6 is the same way. 6 speeds best timeslips are 14.4's. Most are in the 14.5-14.8 range.
A6 Tips are 14.9-15.1. An A6 Tip ran 15.1 at Pomona 94 degrees.
So the A6 is a tad slower than the CL-S counterpart. Plus the A6 Tip weighs 3850lbs.
So tranny to tranny they are close. Real close, except maybe the A6 Tip to CL-S Auto(CL-S has wider advantage).
The thing that helps the S4/A6 is that is has 258lbs of torque from ~1850-3500 rpms. THe little K03's spool up fairly fast.
Hope this helps out.

I think this thread was more related to high speed chase, in which a Stock S4 would beat the CLS hands down.
In stock form, at high speeds (triple digits) a stock 6spd S4 would keep up with a 540iA, where a CLS (in triple digits) would get destroyed by a 540iA.
Off the line the CLS is a hell of a car, hands down, but moving at higher speed, due to poor gearing, it's a different story.
