CLS vs. 330ci

ok ok let me set this straight, im NOT trying to provoke anyone, or piss anyone off, just a simple question for you guys, because you all are more knowledgeable about these cars than i may be....

i got my 2001 CLS (auto) two days ago, and this guy i know just got his 2002 330ci manual.... he keeps calling me wanting to race...both cars are stock... i've been reading around on this forum, and other websites that my car should win, im a pretty decent driver...or at least i consider myself to be..1/4 mile race, straight line... what do you guys think? i welcome all input, sorry if i offend anyone, i dont mean anything offensive by this thread, thanks!

one way to find out. go get him, tiger. <whitetext/personally i'd be a little scared if i were you/whitetext> just because of the manual to auto match. but i guess you've got that ss mode or something? REPRESENT !

I can't really call it a drivers race since you have an auto. But as for him, if he hits all his shifts perfectly, he will pull right off the bat and to be honest, you probably wouldn't catch him with no mods.

You would probably lose by 1/2 a car length if your buddy drives his car avg to above avg.

But you toss on some headers or a pulley and you got it made.

My buddy used to have a 330 and it would scat off the line "rearwheel drive", but if you guys go from a roll and you can stay in vtech i think you will get him.

I'm trying to race my buddys 98 M3, and i know its a M but it feels so slow

As you may already know..

the Type-S CL was designed to go head-to-head against the 330ci. Being an auto will surely make a difference, but I'm pretty sure we have enough power to overcome this in a straight line. The 03 6-speeds with the HLSD were what really gave the Type-S an edge to compensate for the better handling BMW platform.

awesome, he's a very inexperienced driver, he has been driving big automatic trucks all his driving life, and has been taking them off road and what not, he knows nothing about driving a manual bmw 330ci properly i can guarantee you that, im sure he knows how to drive stick...but not the proper way to shift in a race...im relatively sure i got him....200 bucks on the line.. hah his friend called me asking if i wanted to go, and i was like "yea sure, 200 bucks" and the guy with the beemer, i could hear him the the background whining like "nah man i dont wanna!! im gonna lose man! tell him i dont wanna race!"

^^^ yea i always tell him not to let me catch him when im in second gear...lol.. and since our 4th gear suxx.

The 330 is a very nice car dont get me wrong. From the factory it has a nice OEM "growl" to it. Not to mention its a Beemer......

We havent really raced from a dig and the few times we did i smashed him.... on the streets you will win, on the freeway good luck =(

I was split between the 2 cars when I picked up the CL (330 being a manual sedan). In the end I decided that I had enough with German "reliability" (LOL). After a lot of research and my need for something that I could beat on daily without issues, I ended up with the CL.

My next German car will have an //M, AMG or S on the back to make sure the headaches are well worth the rewards.

I mean, most races should be shut down before you have to shift into 4th gear....

If the race hasn't been decided by 110mph, then you just need to make another run, because that would be much further than a 1/4 mile anyways.
