cls-type-s 1/4 mile times
here's something for you cl's owners
i attended a car outing with the local police and a chevelle club that i hang around with at a dragstrip 1000 feet above sea level just outside of cachecreek. tempeture was a clear crisp 34 degrees. this was a fun day to promote that street racing is dangerous and should be done at the track.
unfortunalty no slips were given out
and for the first hour they did have some problems with the time clocks. but most of the guys that hit the tracks on a weekly baises were happy with thier times and said they were within what the have done before.
a tl-type s made 3 swipes down the track and posted a 14.679, 14.632 ,14.567@96.48
this was all before noon.
after dinner a police offier ran his cl type s and made five runs between 6:30-10;00 pm
his last run he did it in drive and posted a 14.459@97.89
both cars were stock i saw no headers or nos
they did have a k&n filter.
tires were Michelin Pilot Sport A/S P215/50R17 90V for the tls
and the cls had Sumitomo HTR Size 215/50WR17
i wish i had brought mine down to try.
i did post a 13.38@105.75 with my jag
so my question is the cars sent to Canada faster than whats sold in America
or does cooler weather make these cars perfrom better.
or is it luck because cars are mast produced will see cars that will be above or below the times of 14.8 and thats just and average.
these times are much lower than what the net says and some of the times this form has posted
would like your opinions
thanks

I would say that's about right for stock numbers, plus the cold probably helped it about a tenth or two. I assume you have a R series Jag? Good run BTW...in the US most Jag R run high 13's.

i wasnt sure if those were good numbers or not for a stock cl type -s i now for sure that my cl seems to have more response now than in august were temperatures were in the 100 degree area. when you post a kill on this form ,there always someone questioning you or they throw the internet times at you. i have had a few races with cars that show internet times of 14.0-14.5 and have beaten them or have match them.
about my jag
1976 4door xj12 with a 1970 , 4 bolt main 454, dimple rods, 10.25/1 compression, rectangular port heads, Holly 750 double pumper, All MSD Ignition, Muncie 4 Spd, , 425 Hp, 500+ Torque, professionally rebuilt 7000 miles ago, very strong, very fast. ut of a chevelle.
it can go faster, i'm just having problems with the jag gearing
had 2:56 but replaced it with 3:10 last year would like to go in the 4 range but i was told it means taking the whole rear end out and total modifying the back end.

Happy CL-S Pilot
Those are great times... you should post this thread in the Sanctioned racings...
The answer why those numbers are so great is simple.... Low Temp, low Humidity makes CLS fly!....
Great numbers the best I saw for a stock CLS...!!!

i would have if they were from me i just witness them and was quite surprise since alot of people tell me these cars stock arent capable of breaking 14.8.
i seen some good times form the guys here but it seems to be all on the east coast and there running headers or intake.
when i talked to the guys at the strip the were telling me that they couldnt break 14.76 during the summer. there was hardly any wheel spin when these guys launch off. the cop is installing headers and a intake this week and is taking it back out next weekend unless it snows,it getting quite cool now.

i personally believe that a good driver can run this car stock in the mid's 14 daily with stock rims and a good set of tires add headers and intake i see this car 14.3 14.2

thats why i posted this thing
i want to find out out what is realistic, i know of a handful of guys that have hit mid 14's but it seems to be in cooler weather,
i havent had a chance to get mine to the track yet.
i've only had my car for 3 months or 12,000kms

Exactly AC, for an automatic, mid 14's is extremely rare. I have a CL type-s 6speed and my best e.t. is 14.15 with intake, mufflers, no spare,on stock tires. Car and Driver's 1/4 for a stock cl-s 6 speed was 14.6. Iv'e just gotten under that. The automatic is near 15 seconds! Cooler temps are better to a certain "degree" for breathing cool air, but when the temp drops alot, traction is not good. I find it very hard to believe a stock tl type-s is running those numbers, let alone a cl-s manual!
