Rumor Mill has started on adjusting Acura's lineup
Oh Baby, don't tease me like this!

The thought alone sends me into the fetal position

There's a couple of Acura related threads in the Auto News Forum here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/automotive-news-6/

The CL was also mentioned in this thread 2 days ago:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374786

You guys need to visit the offtopic forums every once and awhile

I think it's a case of too little, to late...

My CL is 5 years old, and I'm itching for a new car now... I don't have time to wait for acura to talk about a CL replacement that *might* come out in the future... I want something in the next year or so...

I'm looking at the 1-series from BMW since Acura doesn't have a coupe for me...

^^i hear you...i was talking to the guy at acura yesterday and he was saying by 2010 there's gonna be 9 or 10 acura models...i think they're making the tsx a 2dr coupe and optional convertible, but he said that there's talk about a "new" rear wheel drive coupe to rival the bimmers etc...but like green said, cant sit around and wait for acura to get off of their asses

Chumps

I just got mine, so I'm good to wait a few years, wait for the used car market to have a couple of them (too bad the resale value is so good.) So is this your parting AcuraZine forum post? ;-)

Can't wait to blow by your Bummer 1 Series in my 3rd Gen RWD CL!

Maybe some of us are jaded by prior rumors, but it sounds like the same old song and dance to me... A couple of years ago it was "we want to be a sportier brand" and still no coupe in the line up...

Well, wish in one hand, shit in the other; and see which one fills up first.

When is this 300 plus HP RWD coupe coming out ?? I'll believe it when I see the official press release

I guess I'm just really tired of hearing about the countless CL rumors over the past few years...

I really do wish that acura would come out with a rwd coupe... I'd love to get the reliability of hondas engines on a RWD platform... But it looks like Hyundai will be coming out with a RWD coupe before Acura does:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...8&page=6&pp=25

Hyundai has confirmed (if you believe autoblog) that they will have a RWD coupe out in late 2008 or early 2009.

As usual Acura hasn't confirmed anything with regard to a coupe...

The coupe market is heating up, so lets see if Acura can meet the challenge thrown down by the other manufacturers.

The new Tiburon was parked beside me the other day. I actually thought it looked nice, and I swear I thought I would never say that about a Hyundai

Yes I admit their styling is sharp...go drive/ride in one and you will change your mind about them. I drove and rode in a buddy's at work and looked and felt so cheap. Yes their realiability has risen alot in the past couple years but I just felt like I was in a death trap when I was in the car. Not for me...just my

I had a chance to drive a Tiburon, I think it ws an 03 or 04. It was a POS, but it was still fun to beat on. It had a pretty stiff chassis and a tight suspension set up, but the throw on the stick shift felt unreasonably long.

It just drives me crazy when a non-luxury car maker like hyundai is going to have a RWD car and a "luxury" car maker like acura doesn't have a rwd car...

Acura needs to put up or shut up...

Alright, this thread is supposed to be about the RETURN OF THE CL...

We need to bring this thread back on topic, or I'm going to have to close it (even tho' I kinda hijacked it).

A RWD coupe that looks like the sports4 concept would work for me:

I couldn't have said it better myself. They need to come up with some fresh ideas asap if they want to keep their sales from slipping any further.

And as for the next gen CL, if it's as sexy as our 2nd gens, i'll hop in one in a few years. i'm just a poor college student lol

2-door RWD or AWD 3.7 V-6 turbo, 4.7 V8 turbo, for the ultimate high end use that V-10 with no turbo.

I prefer interchangeable stuff. Have the 3.7 V-6 turbo based off our engine or MDX just greatly improve it. Make the new CL RWD. I would love to have an engine swap available for our old CLs or some readily available turbo kits. 4.7 V8 turbo brand spanking new can be in the new RL with AWD. Have the new V-10 in the NSX and have it be an MR set up as usual but with new features that are put into both the new RL and CL.

All materials should be as lightweight as the budget allows. No more 40+ pound wheels. No more heavy ass bodies etc.

I'm hoping that the route that they go...

Put out he V10 NSX, and then come around and do a sub-nsx with a big cube V6 or V8. Maybe it's a CL replacement, maybe it's a s2k replacement (which is also due for a full model change).

It would be interesting to have the new CL be a lightweight RWD 2+2 coupe, and then release a convertible version to replace the s2k. The economies of having 2 cars built off the same rwd platform would help make it more pausable to the bean counters. AMC did something similar back in the late 60's with the 2 seater AMX being based off of the 4 seater Javelin.

There alot of talk from Acura about the next 3-4 years being important to help grow the brand and to establish an indentity of a sporty luxury auto maker, but they really need to stop talking about it, and start showing it in their products.

Actions speak louder than words...

seems like I've seen this before...oh wait
<----------- there it is ha ha.

I doubt Acura is going to make a RWD on the TL or a future CL. esp...when I've seen reviews where their fwd handles and performs just as well as other manufacturer's rwd's. If they are smart they will at least have the option of sh-awd on all their Acura models and leave the honda line up as fwd for a while. TL and CL are not sports cars they are contemporary "luxery" cars. If they make a rwd car bigger than the s2k and smaller and slower than the NSX they are going to come out with a new car...Key word in that whole sentence is (IF). Of course I'm no expert and thats just my opinion...so like I said earlier I don't believe anything until I see pictures and spec/road test.

The 6mt G37 at 3668lbs is kinda porky tho... That's over 200lbs heavier than my 3446lb CL 6spd...

Hey Jiggalow,

I tried to send you a PM but I think you have them disabled. I know it is off topic, but I just moved up to BHAM from Mobile and you are the first user I've seen in 2nd gen from this area.

Do you happen to know of any meets in this area?

Personally, I'm still waiting for Acura to come out with a replacement for the Legend Coupe. The CL-X promoted much interest ... until the 1st gen CL came out and noted "styling clues from the CL-X". Not to say that I'm not happy with my 160K mile '03 CL Type-S, but the CL is still first and foremost an upscale Accord Coupe. When the Legend Coupe was introduced in the late 80's, it was promoted as an "Original Mercedes Replacement Part". The CL has always been a "Genuine Honda Accord Upgrade".

When I was getting my trans replaced at the dealer, I asked about Acura releasing a coupe.
He said that there will be a 2009 model coupe, TSX sized w/ RDX driveline - motor!
That could be kool!!!!

One of the acura salespeople at David McDavid in Austin,TX also told me about a new coupe, based on the TSX, but when I asked him about the engine, he said he doesn't have any information on that.

Yeah, I heard about a new acura coupe from my salesperson when I bought my car 5 years ago.

It's generally acknowledged that salespeople know less about new acura products then the members here who browse the autonews forum.

Well I know first hand that the salesmen are clueless. I first test drove a CL-S automatic, then when I got into the 6spd. The salesman said notice the nicer seats and blah blah blah. I said "there the same, we just got out of a CL-S"

I heard this too, but it was speculation at the time. They killed the RSX, and now the Coupe is making a comeback (Altima?)

I like the TSX, but only because it's size is comparable to the CL. A two door TSX would be...an RSX, which I never cared for (seems to be cheaper than all the other Acura Products.) But a factory turbo would be sa-weet!!

5 cars everyone should drive before they die:
1. Jeep Wrangler - Hard or Soft top - removed
2. Turbo *anything*
3. RWD Junker in the snow
4. <suggestions?>
5. <suggestions?>

Well whatever acura decides to do, they better hurry up because the look of the article does not sound to promising to acura sales. It would be only in the manufactures intrest to manufacture something bigger and better because all the other car companies are making more powerful engines year after year. But not acura!! Is it me or does it seem like the engineers at honda/ acura have been sleeping under a rock for the past 5-10 yrs!!
