CLS 6MT vs. Formula WS6

Ok so I actually gave up street racing this summer right? This wasn't really a RACE persay... We were just playing a bit all within safe speeds. We kept it under 55 the whole time.

So i'm driving home after taking my folks to lunch and I roll across this blue Pontia TransAm looking WS6 stickered car. It's got this 3.5-4" magnaflow single exhaust that looks a bit ugly and so I just figure it's a firebird with WS6 badges and an aftermarket exhaust...

We line up to the red light and I just yell "only up to 55". He gives me a thumbs up. Older guy, pretty chill...

The opposing light turns red and then ours turns green...

All I get is a facefull of tail lights !!! We pull over and he tells me that it's a Formula WS6. A rare showroom edition that has the LS6 under the hood (Z06 engine) putting down about 405HP. We just happen to bank at the same place so I went inside and took care of my banking needs for the day with my head hung low...

I never heard of an LS6 option on any LS1 car but I think the 98's ws6 package and maybe even the camaro SS package only had a single exhaust though.

seems like the guy was BSin' a bit or didn't know exactly what he was talking about. It wasn't a Z06 motor but rather the LS1. Still beastly and still raped me...

I'd have to call what that car put on mine BUS LENGTHS.

no ls6 offered in any of the stock cars. the only 'factory' f bods in recent time hopped up were the 97 LT4 SS and firehawks. all the rest have run either lt1 or ls1 motors.

he may have put on an ls6 intake and done other things, but i highly doubt he actually bought an ls6 and transplanted it.

Darrinb is right, there were a bunch of them with the LS6 intake, and a few with the whole LS6 motor. Talk about something to die for. Solid rear axle, 405hp, and very few people know about it. I haven't seen strip numbers for them, but they should be close to a stock Z06. I think the Vette is lighter, but the rear axle in the Maro should launch better. Oh well, 12s out of the box would be nice.

I'm not debating about having the LS6 motor as I really don't know. But they don't have the Z06 transaxle and still retain the solid read axle.

The C5 has the transaxle mounted at the rear of the car. That could not be done with the F-Body without a major redesign.

Scalbert, I was eluding to the fact that the Camaro version still retained its live axle which is better for drag racing. I'd bet stock vs stock,. the Vetter would still be quicker, after all it is GMs flagship sports car.

Not to get too far off topic, but have you seen the info on the Caddy CTS-V with the LS6 motor!!! YIKES. I wish I had the dough for that one.

Unless he swapped the LS6 in there himself, he didnt get it from the factory (and i dont see the point of doing that when only differences are the cam and heads in the LS6 (the block is too but u get nothing from it-so the point is its better to put a heads/cam on an LS1 and get more power than to for some reason swap a whole LS6 in there and gain like 40 hp)...Now there is something called the ZL1...There was 69 of them built, and it didnt have the Ls6 in it either. Most of them had the 427 C5-R Block, and were making oround 500 RWHP N/A depending on on the car, and what it had.

The Crazy Bosnian is correct. If I'm not mistaken, they were "emissions re-certfied" (not sure about CARB), and sold thru the dealer as a GM vehicle,....but had no drivetrain warranty, and were only in the Camaros.

Hey Crazy Bosnian,
Is that 410 rwhp with stock heads. If so what cam are you running? That's alot of HP for a blot-on cam only WS-6. I'm not doubting, just curious obout the cam. I was days away from having the 224/224-112 cam installed on a bolt-on 02 SS M6. I couldn't make it thru last winter letting it sit in the garage, and ended up trading it for the TL-S.

i've heard a few people mention that with no rhyme or reason some of the WS6's and camaros came with an LS6 block near the end...i think it's all aluminum and i wouldnt be surprised if several dealers swapped Ls6 heads in right at the show room and ofcourse charged more alot more so his story isnt unbelievable

I've read about them. Seems GM wants to compete against the M5. The price is supposed to be under $50K as well.
