CLS-6 speed ECU

hey guys,

im lookin around for a CLS 6 speed ECU and i was wondering if there is a difference in the ECU code between the 6 speed ECU and the auto ECU?

Im asking because i dont want to buy one and have it end up being for the auto CLS.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Kevin

The AT ECU will have some extra stuff for controlling the transmission. I have no idea if this relates but when I did a transmission swap on my Accord (AT --> MT) all I had to do was disconnect the 'extra' plug going into the ECU. I guessed that was just the section to control the AT related stuff. Otherwise I believe the ECU's were identical. May be the same situation here.... but PROBABLY not

I have been searching threads with this same question in mind and from what I see, the ECU´s are different but to me it does not make much sense... I believe the manual ECU will have plugs to indicate which gear tranny is engaged, but besides turning on the reverse tail light, i do not see what else does the ECU need to know or do if it is a manual tranny... the way I see it, the auto ECU should work with a manual but I keep reading that they do not. I have a 01 CLS auto, want to do a tranny swap (to a 6mt) but from the opinions seen it is better to swap engine, tranny and ecu... I wonder If ECU can remain and if the manual tranny can fit the engine (at least with some minor modifications / work)

I didnt try when i did my swap from the 5speed auto to the 6speed manual but i wouldnt think it would work.
None of the harnesses that plug into the ecu are the same i can tell you that. (auto vs manual)

Thanks fsttyms1 for your comment, now I see a clearer picture. This was not my post. I just jumped into it because I have been searching for some answers...
Do you think I can install a 6sp manual on my 01 CLS without having to get a new engine and is it to much work? I am clear that a new ecu is required. Thanks again for sharing the wisdom!!!

Yep, thats right big difference, if yu have the 6spd tranny that your going to be swapping in then getting the VIN off it will also help since there are different versions of the manual ECU it sounds weird but the dealer will ask you for the VIN.

Plus the 6spd ECU is MUCH cheaper.
