I don't know how much quicker it is, but to me, it's a lot more fun to row this engine.

Technically the 6spd should be quicker because there is less hp lost in a manual then an auto, but the difference probably isn't that noticable from "seat of the pants" standpoint tho'...

And about 50# lighter, and minimally better front to back weight distribution, and different gearing.

But I agree, the so-called butt dyno shouldn't be that different.

Were you driving it? Or a passenger? I may agree that it's not a lot faster, but to me driving it seems faster than the automatic because you're more in control. That damn, 1st to 2nd gear shift on my old '01 CLS drove me nuts. .

I would have to disagree. I detailed a friends fathers CLS 6 this past weekend (while my CLS sat @ his house). Even in Stock form that fawker felt almost as fast as mine with mods (I/H/E). Dunno, maybe it was because you weren't driving, but I took the one I had out for a spin.

Just look at the 1/4 times...stock 6-spd is still faster than the auto w/ i/h/e. LSD might help a bit.

A bone stock 6 speed is not faster than a 5AT with I/H/E. Headers make it equal, the rest of the mods give the advantage to the auto.

Just look at the times people with 5AT's post. Darrinb has run 14.2 & consistent 14.3's with I/H/E, MattG has ran 14.1, mrSteve has ran 14.1. No *bone* stock 6 speed has ever gone faster than 14.2, and only 1 (that I have heard of) has ran 14.2 stock. Most are in the 14.5's bone stock. I have some drag radials I am itching to test out, so maybe I can get close to a 14.2 bone stock (cept for tires of course).

i have both 03 CLS - 6m/t and auto. IMO, i can feel the difference, esp on the higher rpm....but like others said same engine etc. dun expect like you will experince driving a much faster car....anyway CLS is a fun car to drive.

No way.

The best a stock CL 6 will do is 14.5 maybe 14.4

I did 14.2 with the mods you mentioned.

I'm with you Chopper. The CL-S 6MT stock feels as fast as my 03 TL-S w/ I/H/E was. It's definitely more responsive and a lot more useable power down lower. The ratios in the 6MT are a lot closer and it seems to keep the motor in the sweet spot more. I just added my Headers to the CL-S 6MT this last weekend and now it's significantly faster and pulls harder.

No different than a CL-P w/ I/H/E starts getting close to a stock CL-S unfortunately.

that's different though...the CL-S engine is beefed up comapred to the CL-P. The only difference in our equation is the fucking transmission

i've lined up against ya at the track, u can def tell the headers are given me a higher trap and pullin on ya, but if u had some better tires and headers i'd def get walked

Auto's are faster if the driver of the 6mt can't shift very well.

Agreed. Much more room for error with a 6MT. 5AT should yield more consistent times in general.

Well, we'll see what kinda traps I get now with some more miles on the car. Its ran 97mph and it only had like 3,500 miles, IIRC. You're gonna be pissed if I beat that 14.2 for only $150 (got 2 dr's & wheels for $150 shipped )

That's why the auto gets better gas mileage, the tranny is more efficient, (but not as fun!).

The auto does not get better gas mileage, it just has a taller final drive ratio which makes it cruise at lower revs on the expressway.

You dont have to launch it like a madman. Take it easy on the launch and then go WOT. Its no more harmful than WOT blasts on the street. I've driven 3 hours to go the the track, beat the living shit out of my car, and drive home right afterwards. If my 10 year old Ford can do it, your new Japanese car should have no problems.

Price of swapping a 6 speed into a TL type s ?

OK im sure its been discussed before .. but I really want that damn 6 speed in my car. I know it would be the tranny, ecu's, instrument cluster, and of course consol

Any idea ? Let me know .. just throwing around ideas
