cleaning brake calipers

after the winter, there are sections of my brake calipers that lost the silver shine. They look like crap through the rims.

What is the best way to clean them, tried a sponge and zaino-carwash, no good. I didn't think a wire brush would be good.
Any ideas?

You may not be able to return to the original color but try the wire brush.
Salts can have some chemicals that in combination with the heat, can permanently stain the metal.
