Sideskirts almost done, these were just slided into OE mounting rails just for these pics... They're not bolted on yet...

Charles,

HOLY shiznet!!! I don't think I've ever said that out loud in my cube at work...others around me are looking at me like I'm crazy. But after seeing the side skirts, I couldn't help it.

I've been following your thread about the TL -> CL kit conversion since yesterday. I have to say:

1) you've got some big ballz
2) that is looking tits
3) show this to Acura ASAP

keep up the good work. I would love to do this myself, but like you have mentioned time after time, leave it to the experts. Let me know if you and your body shop guy are interested in coming to pittsburgh.

We've fab mounts using the OE rail mounts under the body... There will always be seams cause of the door. It's not wise & feasable to mold to body, we mounted like as if an OE sideskirt should be mounted... U see the large seam cause as I stated, it was slided on for this pic, but has not been bolted down yet...

DAAAYYYYUUUUUMMMM!! Your car is going to look freaking awesome when it's done. I hope you do show it to Acura so they can get their asses in gear to get an acutal OEM kit out for us.
Glad someone stepped up to the plate to do this.

What had to be done to the sides to make them work?

Answer from my original post:

Front Spoiler: Too short, does not wrap around CL bumper, need to cut in 3 pieces, fabricate extensions, lots of new mounting points, cut alot of certain critical points to allow to force spoiler to shape to CL bumper. The hardest part.

Side skirts: Too long, don't fit too well, none of mounting points work, so cut & make it shorter, fab lots of new mounting points to use OE sliding rails and cut alot of location to make it fit. Easier than front spoiler.

Rear skirt: Too long, won't fit or wrap correctly, mounting points won't work, so cut & make it shorter, fab lots of new mounting points, & cut in 4 pieces to allow to shape it to CL bumper. Easier than front, harder than sides.

My theory on why Acura won't make a kit for our CL but they do for TL:

TL big seller, CL not, CL may be discontinued if sales don't pick up.
So they may not want to invest money for R&D and molds for the kit... damn, they even took away our cheap fog lights for the 03' model, going Cheaper every year are we Acura ?

They make kits for Accords & Civics (I saw a 03' Civic w/ OE kit on the road the other day)... They sell more Accords & Civics than CLs, and Civics are inexpensive, lots of kids buy them, and they're willing to buy kits for their car also... (being young & fast & furious crowds)...

Just talked w/ a rep. at Kaminari (they make sweet & clean kits for the 97' Legends, 300XZ, ect..) about a month ago regarding CL bodykit, he said "that's not even being considered..." - why ? They probably won't sell enough kit to make a profit, period....

If we could, we would... Don't have the tools, facility, ect...

My friend's shop is just a collision repair shop, I have to force the guy to do custom work

He rejected my idea of this project a year ago, and even on Monday when I was ordering the TL kit, he still stated that it's not do-able, it'll be ugly, I'll lose tons of money, and he WON'T recommend it... Well, I guess I proved him wrong about my R&D :P

Do U think Acura will give me a free 03' NSX if I give them pics of my CL w/ the TL kit

I was looking into getting an 03' NSX or 02' Z06 405 hp, LOL...
Decided on neither:

NSX - 90K for 290hp V6, no thanks cause rumors are that the next NSX 04-05' will be in the 45-60K range (more affordable, no more aluminum body, w/ v8 & redesigned body), cause Nissan's 350Z has set new standards for perfomance, looks, and AFFORDABILTY !!!

Z06 - Best bang for the buck, bar none, but reliability & quality issues (many C5s & Z06 owners have been left stranded by their 50K cars ) , what can I say, it's GM, but top of the line GM

We'll see what Toyota will bring up to the plate, v8 supra ?

When your kit is finsihed I would love to get a chance to see it in person. Maybe we can have a local meet or something to admire your hard work.

As soon as it's completed, yall will get updates & detailed pics...

I will try my best to make it to the next Dallas Acura meet,
depends on date & time... How else am I going to promote our hard work...
I am very sure car enthusiasts will scrutinize, go over every inch w/ a magnifying glass on our kit before they're willing to part $5K of their hard earned money...
Joking about the $5K, don't have the price worked out yet...:P

Yes, I've seen that, one bad thing about bonding your side skirts to the rear quarter & front fender panels = 1 large piece (not 3 modular pieces, if minor fender bender to any of these part. U have to paint the whole 3 pieces cause they're not modular no more...
See my point, custom kits for daily use should be modular panels like OE parts that came from factory...

I noticed the SEMA CL-S had creased in doors. that looks much better. they shouldv'e done that to the CL's....also...i think that's where Acura got the idea for the OEM Kit for the TL..it seriously looks pretty simliar.

I think it's hard to tell from the pictures but im pretty sure those arent creases in the metal of the doors..it looks more like they added creased side skirts that go up pretty high on the car...body cladding or whatever.
