CL vs. S2000

My cousin has an 2005 S2k, RED/black. my crew talks shit to each other all the time. I know his car is faster, but i know im a better driver than him. so we decide to hit it at a 40 mph roll, and i had taken him by 1 car length, but he had it in 3rd gear. I had it in my top of second. Oh well

Second run, we do it at about 20 mph roll till about 60, and then i had him beat by another car length.

Third run, we did it again at 20, mind you my car is peeling out when i have it in 1st gear. And then when i shift into second, it chirps hardcore. So we both hit it and his car jumps up on me half a car right away, and my car chirped into second, and then we went till about 85 mph, and ended with him up a half car, but i just said f**k it, and kept my traction on. But it was a great run. I know his car is faster, but still. its a drivers race!!

Nice runs -but... You can really only claim you're a better driver if you were also driving a manual or you were competing in something like an auto-x. Otherwise, you (and me b/f I sold my automatic CLS) are simply stepping on the gas pedal and holding on for the ride...though a fun ride it is!!

i know, but like i said, i am a better driver. and he doesn't know how to drive his car that well. i drove somebodys evo for the first time, better than he does. and he had it for 8,000 miles. i drove it once, and he was impressed. well they should walk all over us, but it was a good run.

you're better at flooring your automatic car than he is at driving stick. wow. great accomplishment

robeanee is right, an 05 s2k should be able to tear a CL-S. If ur claim is that you're 'that much' better of a driver than he is, my conclusion is that guy shouldn't even own an s2k.

regardless, i'm glad your 'crew' had fun.

our cars are not bad for a regular coupe. s2ks are fast. but you know what. if someone has a car thats a half second faster than yours, and barely beats u, that means they're not good of a driver. So that goes to you "BRIANLIN87". So thats what i mean by a good driver. on auto cars you just floor the car, im stayin for stick shift, its a drivers race.

yeah that's understandable, but the term "driver's race" generally only applies when both cars involved are manual. none of this shoulda coulda woulda ASSUMING your car was stick. i dunno why you brought up the fact that you're a better driver than him..unless you're saying that if you were racing yourself you woulda won in the s2k?

You know what, thats exactly what im saying. Im saying i am a good driver. I would have beat my car if i was driving the S2k. THank you robeanee for understanding what im trying to say. Geez. I know automatic cars, u just punch it and thats it.

Little boy, the only thing that was of any truth/relevance was "s2ks are fast."

You're staying for stick shift. riiiight.

Your claim to fame of you being a 'good driver' means absolutely nothing in this thread. You drive an auto. You will always drive an auto. Brag about your 'driving skills' when you actually get put in a real race. Until then, shut up

Your cousin needs to learn how to drive his car, but you already knew that. Actually, S2000s aren't easy cars to launch from a dig ... from a roll, he should have had you easily, but like you said he was in the wrong gear. A 40mph roll is a bad speed to start at for the S2000, although he definitely should have been in 2nd, 1st tops out @ 34mph, 2nd tops out @ 58mph...

The S2000 is a dog at lower RPMs, the 2.2L engine is not that slow at lower rpms as the 2.0L which some people have said drives like a civic below 6000rpms... but both S2000s really come alive above 6000 when you hit the hot cams.

Good job on the kill though ... once your cousin gets used to driving his car, run him again and he should smoke ya ... unless you're supercharged by then

honestly, i think a cl-s with his mods should put up a good fight with an s2k, from a roll the driver error is reduced largly though, if you dont know how to launch an s2k your gonna run 14.8 in it

I dunno, I have similar mods on my TL-S (I/H/E, Unichip) - I'm missing the pulleys, but I think the ECU should add similar power ... and my S2000 is definitely faster than the TL-S. I've never raced the two cars, but I'm pretty sure from a roll as long as I started in the right gear ... I'd be walking away from my TL-S with the S2000.

Same thing with an auto CL-S.

Now obviously if you have someone who is starting in the wrong gear ... then the CL-S has a chance. But its like saying the CL-S would put up a good fight against the Z06, because if the Corvette driver starts in 6th gear the CL-S would win. Sure, anything is possible on the road ... but it doesn't mean the cars are equal

Deeeeeeep breath..... and count to 10..... lets keep this thread civil, you don't know that you are 10x's better than him at stick, and you can't say that you will spank any car he has with your supra (you never know what some people might have parked in the garage). Sure, he might be wrong for bashing you like that, but arguing on the net will get you nowhere. By the way Supra's are sweeeet I was thinking about buying one as a project car, major props on the Supra, any pics?

maybe the old one..but the new ones are actually pretty crazy. given their amazing power to weight ratio, they will walk circles around our cars (assuming a capable driver that is). a 6 spd with all the bolt-ons may put up a good fight against an 05 s2k, but once you mod the s2k, good bye N/A cl-s. i think people underestimate the s2k's freeway or roll capabilities...one pulled on me ridiculously hard even when i started at 50 mph

Haha ... Not spoiled, its all my own money ... You have two cars too! Supras are pretty sweet.

The Unichip is pretty nice, you can't really feel the power, but at the track I was running 2/10ths of a second faster with the Unichip than without it.

The old S2000s (00-03) are just as fast as the "new" S2000s (04-06+).. They run pretty much the same times in the 1/4 mile (Magazine times have the 00 S2000 listed @ 13.8s @ 100mph and a 05 S2000s listed @ 13.9s @ 100mph). Other than a shorter final gear (which doesn't really add power, nor is it a bolt-on) bolt-ons do nearly nothing for the S2000 since the car is pretty much maxed out from the factory ... the only add-ons that really add a lot of power w/o spending huge sums of money are FI solutions.

A well modded 6 speed N/A CL-S would put up a good fight with an S2000 though..
