CL Trade-in value Question

I have been looking at leasing a 350z to replace my CL due to high monthly payments on my loan, and to fulfill my need for a 6 speed.

I went to 3 Nissan dealers yesterday and I have to say overall, I was not happy with the treatment I received.

I owe approx ~22k on my loan, I have an 01 CLS with 27k miles and is in EXCELLENT condition. Car is scratch free.

One dealer told me he'd give me $16k for the trade in value. Willing to move to $16.5k

The others were: $18k, $18.5k

Is our car worth this little? I was hoping for at least $20k

The attitude of two of the dealers got me really pissed. One guy said the reason for the low price is that Acura's are in much lower demand that Nissan's and they are perceived as lower in class and quality as a Nissan

One dealer asked me why I ever got an Acura in the first place. The arrogance of two of those Nissan dealers was unbelievable.

One of the dealers was very nice (the one with the $19k quote).

Do you guys think it's worth trying to sell the car in the private market?

It's certainly worth trying to sell the car to a private seller.

Here's the problem. There is a HUGE surplus of used cars out there right now. With all the recent car incentives, people can get a brand new car for thousands off of MSRP. So a 20+K used car isn't really what people want, as they can get a new one for just a few thousand more.

Certainly, a private sale will yield you more cash, but you gotta get someone to buy it. Might be tough in today's market.

I guess it's not that I am desparate for the $$, but it's just kind of annoying to continue paying $730 a month for the next 3 years on my car which is getting old, rattles crazy, is an auto, etc. I guess I keep using the idea of saving $$ as an excuse to get a new car.

I really like the new Z. I got a lease quote of $440 (0 down), which is a savings of almost $300 a month over the CL. It's just the crappy resale of our car and the current used car market which is killing me.

I love the CLS, but I am just struggling to convince myself to keep paying what I am for a car that is losing it's appeal to me. I don't need 4 seats, and I always wanted a true sports car. I already have a "utility" car (99 Maxima) for my needs.

I definitely won't sell my car for such a huge loss though. I guess I may stay with my CL for quite a while.

Low interest rates on new models killed the used market. It's a slow time of year & they're trying to make a killing on every deal. Not to mention your buying a hot item & they don't need to give any breaks price-wise since there's a guy behind you who just can't wait to buy one(at full price).

Have you tried selling it to an Acura or Honda dealer? It's worth a shot.

>I don't think $20K is unreasonable ...Good Luck!!!

Great idea. I'll probably try and hit them up in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!
