CL/TL board members stupid questions about buying and installing aftermarket parts

So how many of you are car modification stupid?

I did not know that much about modifying cars when I started out. But have since learned how suspension works and how to take things off and put them back on the car. I have even started to do some easy modifications myself.

Have any of you learned how things are put together and work on the CL?

Does anyone ask the shop why they do it one way vs the other? Or do you just drop off your car, get something installed, then let them rape you on installation charges, and afterwards smoke a cigarette because you like being butt raped and now your car is slammed.

I give rice boy shops credit for dealing with customers... They get stupid questions like "oh what will that five dollar hyper white light look like" or "will that VTEC and AEM sticker make my car go faster?"

Oh well just ranting and venting....

I installed my CAI by myself (well, with the help of a friend).

But for my springs, I *had* to get them installed at a place because A) I dont have the proper facilities to do it myself and B) It is a *MAJOR* mod compared to the CAI...wouldnt want to fawk up my suspension :-x

I had to change my tire last month... I trust my workmanship... only to 50mph though. Its good to know one's capabilities. I'm an IT tech... and a programmer. I don't belong under the hood anymore than Britney Spears. If you see my feet sticking out from under the car, call the police. Something horrible has happened.

Yeah i had no idea what one was either and now i need one I have done all of my mods my self but there is nothing major although i plan on doing my springs myself because it feels so much better when you do a mod yourself despite all the cursing and cuts

Heh. I'd love to be able to do it, but I'm with Scorpius. If I installed some springs, I'd probably end up killing myself or something. Seriously, mechanical things aren't my forte....

Oh, Clicky, Turny, Thingy! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA sorry Amir...

I do everything myself and it is very satisfying when done.

I research like crazy though. i guess I'm mechanically inclined but I just hate hearing things from people who got their stuff done by the mechanic and because they don't know any better they get a crappy job or get gouged on price. A friend of mine is deathly afraid of doing anything to his car other than driving it and pays a ton of $$ for mechanics to do stuff for him like install his dash CF kit etc. I feel bad for him.

I was talking with a guy who fancied himself a car nut but who got his springs and shocks installed on his brand new Celica by the dealer. I looked at it and he had some wicked negative camber and I commented on it. I asked if he was going to get it fixed or if he's just going to keep replacing tires and he shrugged and said "the dealer installed it all so I figure it's right". and he left it at that!

He got duped cause now he'll be right back in the shop.

OOps, this post is long

same here. i'm an ME so i'm mechanically inclined and can do mods on my car, but my time is more expensive than paying a shop like PA acura to do it, so I give it to them instead.

See...quality install at that price is hard to come by...not to mention it only takes maybe an hour....at a rice shop on jacks...it could take all day.
