CL-S vs. S60 T5

My first real race in the CL!!!
Just happened coming back from DC: We pass three lights and the dude is like flooring it between the lights. I know them well, so I know not to go at it because the next one will stay red...
This is in Rt 1 leaving old town Alex. so there are photo lights...

Well we reach the one at the 95 exit, I turn VSA off and switch to SS (remember my 2k3 is auto since I can't drive stick).
I start slow to see if he'll go, he does and I WOT it. First, I'm about 3/4 ahead, by the end of second, he's a full car and a half behind.
Then I hit the rev limiter :thumbsdn:
I hit the upshift too late. I lost my lead, he shut down as did I.
I slowed down but nothing. Dude was ignoring me

I'm so scared now... any damage from hitting the rev limiter? I can't drive stick and apparently I can't drive sportshift for shit either :o
Someone shoot me!

Nah...no harm done. I hit the rev limiter a few times at the track trying to break into 14.6's

Nah, that's what the limiter is there for. The only damage done was to your lead

Are you hitting the rev limiter in first and second, or just third at the end of the 1/4 mile?

Usually first to second, sometime second to third, but never in consecutive shifts. Can't hit limiter in third as I am still 200 rpm shy of redline when the 1/4 mile is reached.

Sounds like the gearing is a little better for 1/4 than my old Eclipse. It was pretty much a toss up to stay in third till redline or lose a little bit in the shift to fourth.

It's difficult to get exact numbers off the Comptech dyno sheet (here ), but it looks as though you may be able to cut a little bit off the ET by shifting a little sooner.

The hp and torque dip past ~6500 rpm, so doing an earlier shift to keep it in a better part of the curve may give you what you need. I know the rpms fly once the vtec kicks in, but it'd be interesting to see if using a lower shift point next time would work.

I tried that approach once, made the 1/4 mile time worse! I believe that the gearing, no matter if you shift at redline or sooner, will fall out of VTEC range with each shift. Thus, to make up for the next shift, I would shift at red line to get the RPM as close to VTEC range as possible. This may not apply to the 6SPD.
