CL-S vs AUDI S4
heyy everybody is talking about the Audi S4..iam wondering is it better than the CL-s.if yes...in which way..Is it worth 40k or whatever it is...by the way which car is faster the Audi S4 or the CL-S...
#2
Yes it is. That was my first choice but unfortunately $10K more than what I had to buy with. The S4 is faster, I believe it does the 1/4 in 14.5. It is all wheeldrive, has a stiffer suspension and has a wealth of aftermaket parts. It also has consistently been leading the pack in its racing class.
#3
The S4 is plain and simple a sweet fucking car. If there was no CL-TypeS I would have waited another 3 months and saved the extra money for the down payment. You can't beat Quattro. The car can easily be chiped and give awesome performance. The only bad thing I have heard is the SS in the automatic is even more useless then in our CLs. Who cares though when you can get a 6 speed manual tranny.

S4 with a manual and a chip and a driver who knows how to launch it would kick our ass. I've gone up against one with a chip/exhuast and a lot of other stuff. Guy knew how to launch it too. Needless to say no match. Here's his website... www.imolas4.com
The thing is nice, however, I beieve the tranny is the weakest link. I think his has been in the shop a few times for the tranny problems. I was over at Don McGill Imports last week (late at night) and saw his car there. I would have to saw tranny problems again. I'm not ragging on it but I don't think you can really abuse the car. Maybe when they will improve the tranny in the future. But in all, the thing looks good inside and out, and kicks ass.

u know if u r going to spend 40k on a audi s4...i think u r crazy if u do..i mean if u r looking for a car in the 40K range u rather go for the 540i...nobody even knows about hte audi..i think i would definently go 4 the bmw 540i...540i much better car...speed wise i dont no about that, they should b a real close race...wat do you'll think
#11
the problem with that is that the 540 will set you back another 10k with any type of options on it, but if i had the money, i would own the 540 6 speed without a doubt, assuming i could not afford an m5 that is! our cars are quick, but the 540 is just as quick, but comes alive at 100 mph, where ours start to fade. a 6 speed 540 will give a vette a race to 150 mph, but im not saying it will beat it!

when I was shopping for a new car and leaning massively towards the cl-s, I stopped at a local audi dealer for a drive. No go. He would let me sit in the car but we couldn't even start the thing. I said I had the money to pay for it right then and told him I would never be coming back. I bought a mitsu gsx from a pompous ass prick here in buffalo and have regretted it since b/c his attitude permeates the entire dealership from showroom to the maintenance bays. The audi's interior is one of the prettiest imo, on the market. The awd cannot be beat if you live in the NE like me. Oh well, I Love my cl-s!

Chief, I liked the Audi also for the awd but there are no dealers in North Jersey or in Staten Island. Go figure?

I can tell you the S4 kicks royal butt on Speedvision's showroom stock racing series. The Acura NSX has a hard time beating the S4, but it has. Corvette, Ferrari 355, Viper, Cobra Mustang, M3, all have lost to the S4 on the track. Now I realize showroom stock is hardly showroom stock, but never the less it shows the potential the S4 has right off the trailer!!!

One of my friends has an Audi S4. We went to the track last week (he has a chip and exhaust) and he pulled a 13.2 spinning all 4 tires! Can we beat that?! Maybe with thousands of dollars!

Buddah,
Yep! Transmission is definitly the weakest link. Actually I have learned the best way to launch the car is to slip the clutch ever so slightly and then jump on the throttle vs. dumping the clutch like a normal car.
My car was at Don McGill for 2 weeks having the 2nd gear synchros and slider gears replaced. No big deal, and I'm not the only one that has had that problem. We put Redline MTL in it this time..that should help significantly.
Also, my best time at the track (Haven't been recently) has been at 13.57@102 . I just put the 100 Octane race program on my chip last weekend, so am going to play around with some 116 race gas. Everyone I've talked to says it makes a HUGE difference power wise. I'll probably also be adding downpipes in May or so. Hopefully that will put me in the high 12s once I perfect my launching technique.
See ya on the street!

Couple of things.
The S4 last raced by C&D beat the 99 M3. The 0-60 run was below 6 secs, I believe it was 5.8 or 5.6 secs. So the 1/4 must have been at least 14.2 if not lower.
Remember that if you buy an S4 now you will see it lose value faster than ever in 1 and a half years when the new S4 will be out completely redone and this time with no turbos. The most reliable rumor says they will use the W8 NA engine from the future Pasat which with the Pasat it will make 270HP. That means that with the S4 it will make more HP. I would not be surprised to see 310HP if not more.
The new A4 body is out later this year in the US so even that will affect the resale value of a 2001 S4.
Still, that does not mean that the S4 is a great car. I test drove the car when looking at the CLS and 330Ci and IS300. I liked it the most of all cars but there is no way I could justify the $12K more. S4s will cost you more than $40K now ($42 is the minimum).

Wrong wrong wrong...
The new S4 won't be out for at least 3 years, probably 4-5 before it reaches our shores. Second of all, NO one knows what motor will be in the car. Anything you have heard is purely speculation. The S4s will NOT drop their resale value because it will be a while before they are available here. And last, the new body style A4 won't affect the resale of an S4 because those that want an S4 will buy an S4. I myself would have bought the CL-S over an A4, but the S4 is a whole nother beast.
And let me just tell you, spend 2k on the S4 and you'll be up to ~320hp and ungodly amounts of torque

S4 was my first choice. The performance was great and so was the ride, but we have to use cars for so many business miles that I chickened out on the turbos and got a CLS and a 330i. Yeah, the S4 is fastest, but the 330i handles best and the CLS is such a performance and functional bargain.

wassup buddy! yeah i thought that was your car. i was there looking at the 911 turbos they had. just looking. important to have goals in life you know. can you believe they actually had one with a tiptronic? how sad.
i would probably have to say that the s4 are primed to replace the e36 m3's as the best performance car for the money for years to come. The e46 m3, whenever they work all the bugs out, I think really has priced itself out of contention. When it bumps itself into the 60K range, there is a lot more competition.
i would consider an s4 as soon as they become more reliable. well see you on the streets.
