CL-s Value Depreciation!!

I just got a quote from a dealer for how much my car is worth, and they said $22K. That stinks! It's got 19,000 miles on it, and it's in perfect condition. My plan was to have the car bought out by the dealer since it's a lease, and then I would eventually get into a new Z, but since my buyout price is $25K...I'd have to cough up an extra $3K for them to buyout my car. This fricken sucks!!!

none sense. At the end of the lease, they will take it back and you owe them nothing. Basically they are buying it back at $25K!!!

Well the thing is that it's not the end of the lease yet. I'm trying to get out of it early, and they said for me to do that, they would have to find out how much my car is really worth, and how much the buyout is. I was expecting only like a $1K difference, but it's a $3k difference. Which means for me to get out of this car, and get into a Z, I'd have to pay an extra $3K. I was really hoping for the CL-s to be worth more than just $22K.

If I were you, I would be patient. Is the 3k you would lose worth it? Besides, I would probably buy the Z the second year it comes out. No more 1st year cars for me.

I think you might be right, but the Z is just so tempting. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. But is it right that our cars depreciate so fast, or do you think the dealer is ripping me off?

The $22K value seems about right, considering that that is the value being set by the dealer. It is always on the low end.

Obviously, you may be able to find someone else to pay you more than $22K.

Well, I was told 24K and I have NAV so I guess that price is about right.

19,500 miles on mine.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure I was being told a lesser amount. Shawn, my car doesn't have a NAVI, so I guess you're right, it does make sense. Thanks again!

AMEN TO THAT!!! While I love my car, I am NOT into the first year iteration of a vehicle anymore.

I'm a little confused . Only (to the most) 5 months ago I was told by many people on the Acura site that the CLS was 26K w/o Navi and 2K more w/ Navi. By the way this is a full paid car.
So with a lease, the depreciation would be more and the selling price would be less?
Or is it the same no matter if it is a lease or an owned car.
Also what would be the added price to the vehicle if I added tint.

22k is a bit low for it, but it's the dealer's call. Also Navi depreciates as well, so it should not be worth 2k now. Miles and the condition of the car is what determines the final value. I would try to sell it to a private party, you are bound to get at least 24k for it.
Thats how I plan to sell mine.
Dealer will give you a value from which they can make money, never the true market value.

CLS invoices at 28,132 I believe with Navi, the invoice will be 28,132 plus 1800. To get the true cost take 2% for holdback out of the invoice. There were left over 01 CLSes that could've been had for 27,500 without Navi, but I am sure they are all gone now.

I traded mine in for 24,200 when it had 7000 miles on it and it was immaculate. I took a $6K hit when it was all said and done.

I would rather eat the loss and be happy with my new vehicle and situation than stay in a situation/car I wasn't excited with. But that's just me, b/c cars are so important to me and I want to feel good whenever I drive.

Tint DEPRECIATES your car, not increases the value, unless you sell it privately to someone who desires it.

The dealer offers ACV or actual cash value aka wholesale value aka auction value.

You can get more selling privately, but don't expect over 23-24 considering they sold new w/o Navi for 26's.

I want a Z as well, but I plan on owning it 2nd year and as a second car.

Get a load of this.

When I heard about the new 6 speed I ran down to the local dealer to trade my car in early and order a 6 speed. They said they'd give me $20,000 in trade!!!!!!!!!!! I have a 2001 cl-s with 8,000 miles and the thing is SPOTLESS. I told them to take their $20,000 and

They said I might be able to get $22,000- $23,000 if I sold it in the paper.

Is it because I have the Gold CL-S or are they just SMOKIN CRACK?

gold hurts your resale. Look at it from their side. Its a lot harder to talk someone into a gold car than white, black, silver, or blue. Gold is a hate it or love it color. To the right person, its worth top dollar. Everyone else is going to turn up their nose or demand a deep discount.

You nailed it, I have gold as well.....dealers hit cars with funky colors that they feel will be tough to sell (any dealer), now you took it to an Acura dealer who knows damn well that color sold like complete shit- they couldn't give them away.

So, unless they can own it low...why bother getting back into a car that they might feel will be a problem. I would figure in a $1k-$2k hit because of the color.

Ok now here is a concerning question. Did all u guys go back to the same dealer that u purchased ur CLSs from or from a different dealer. Did u guys speak with the same dealer that sold u ur CLS in the first place.
Cause man I can't see any reason why the same guy that sold u a CLS in the first place would stick u on helping u purchase another new CLS from him.
Oh never mind, 'money talks and BS walks'.

Before I bought the CL-S, I had a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante LS that I purchased for 28k. The Mitsu had 8000 miles when I traded it in for the CL-S. The Acura dealer gave me 26k for it. What the hell, Mitsubishi's have a better resale value?

the used car guides give that model a $19k trade-in and $24k at retail, so, assuming the selling price on your acura was reasonable, it sounds like you made out like a bandit...

Regarding low resale...............

I went to an auto auction last week and I think that's about the best education one can get regarding used cars. You wouldn't believe how cheap vehicles go for, and I mean like 2 to 3 year old STS Cadillacs that sold for 45K+ new going for half of that or less. SUV's and trucks aren't immune either. Dealers make most of their money on used cars, so don't expect any favors. I almost jumped on a Mustang GT with leather (2000 with 7K mi) for 15K just to resell it. That car dropped at least 9K already and it's nearly new. That's why when I bought my new RAM, I traded the wife's 99 Si Civic since I knew the resale was strong, and kept the gold Acura. Screw 'em. Get your miles worth or pay the (steep) price!! Best bet is for you to sell your car and save 3K.

And how much did you pay for the CL-S? The dealer never loses.

Keep the CLS for another year. You will always lose on a lease if you try to get out of it earlier, especially through a dealer. The CLS is fun enough to drive for another year. I am going to wait another year before buying a new car. That will give me two years in the CLS and it will still be under warranty (private parties eat this shit up) when I sell it. I have always sold my used Acuras for top dollar. I'm looking at the GS300, G35 or a BMW. I know,
I'm rambling......already on my second mocha from Starbucks and I can't stop typing.

I'm doing the same. I've had mine for just over a year, and as much as I want to jump into a G35 or 350Z right now, I'm going to wait another year as well. I've known too many people that have taken a negative equity hit when trading in a lease early to another dealer.

Hold out if you can. I personally would rather not pay thousands just to get into a new car. By next year my payoff should be such that I can get more out of it than I owe.

So you guys think if I wait another year that my payoff and the wholesale value of the car with me closer to each other, so I won't get ripped off if I turn the lease in early? I'm assuming I'd have to keep the miles down. I do have say, that pre-ordering the new Z is an urge that is going to be hard to control.

It makes perfect sense to me.

- The time you have had the car, the first year, is the time when it depreciates most rapidly.

- You are leasing it which yeilds lower monthly payments, and less "equity" in the car

Of course you are upside down on it.
