CL-S mt vs. Mazda 3

I was heading back from downtown seattle at about 1 a.m. and i was in the carpool lane with a friend goin about 65. then i pass some mazda3 that kind of looked like that mazdaspeed version. anyways my friend starts staring at teh car and the mazda decides to start speeding off so i dropped it into 3rd and started going at it...i pulled on him and basically ended up going 120 before i cut off. the mazda was at least 10 cars behind me...must not have been the mazdaspeed...in hindsight that was kind of a stupid thing to do seeing how many cops are out on the interstate these days and how i had a passenger in the car ...but at least i can walk away with another win.

nice run. i was wondering how we'd do against a mazdaspeed. i wish you were sure what it was. itd be a good race FWD vs. FWD when the speed3 has 280torque and 220Whp.

but again nice run.

What highway were you on? I90,99, I5, or the 405. Just wondering. I used to live up there, and did my share of young and stupid on all thoes highways.

yeah i was bored and needed a little excitement on the way home. it seems like there were alot of cars speeding last night and it wasnt even after 2 oclock oh yeah I was on I5 northbound. worst place to go over 70 after 2 am cause of all the kids heading home from the clubs. It was fun though. anyone ever had a run with a mazdaspeed 3 or 6?

You must be out of your mind man, if you are talking about a mazdaspeed 3, those things are turboed, and can run 13s stock.Your GTI its nothing compared to to mazdaspeed 3 speedwise

My buddy just bought a Speed3. No way a stock CLS will beat it. They are too quick. All the advantages the CLS have the Speed3 have and are better. CLS may beat off line but that is about it. At least in my experiences.

However I went with my buddy to the 1/8th mile track last Friday. His best time was 9.33. But that took about 5 runs to get. I would run right with him even with his best time. I run a consistent 9.5-9.6.

Track and street vary thought and they def have edge in street if you ask me

I am sure he could get it down to 9 flat range if we went back. And it was probably 60-65 degrees

I just raced a mazdaspeed 3 off the line the other day. I'm man enough to admit he took me, but he also knew how to shift.

Yup they quick. I had a good start myself maybe pulled a 1/4th only to get dusted. And I think I am a good driver.

they're rated at 268hp and weigh less than 3200 lbs. no way we can hang w/a properly driven ms3.

basically the ms6 engine in the ms3 without awd.. they are torque limited in 1st.. and highly doubtful you will win unless you find one that is heat soaked

I used to own a CL-S and now own a 08 MS3 and yeah, the CL-s has no chance if the driver of the MS3 can drive.

Two totally different cars though.

Damn last time I saw one race they trapped at 96mph
Besides having to short shift the car, it hs great low and midrange power but its high end is proportionally much worse. Had guys with MS3's that were afraid to race me after destroying the MS6's out there, go figure.

I was expecting the story to be very short myself. There's nothing that Mazda makes in this day and age that could touch a CL-S.

Normally aspirated only. Why go up against a supercharged or turboed with a normally aspirated car?

08 M3's are normally aspirated...I would race that against alot of turboed/ supercharged cars.

All matters on tuning and overall type of car.
Turbo's and supercharged are overrated in my book.
Yes they can be tweaked alot better.. but 80% of the population doesn't know how to do that. All they hear is Turbo...and expect it to kill everything on the road.
Example my buddies 03 GTI turbo...killed it easily every day of the week.
same buddies 02 Audi TT...killed it even worse and our cars are not meant for "straight speed"

An 08' M3 is in a totally different category. I was talking about racing the Turboed Mazda. The fact that it's an M3 is enough to get anyone's attention. Even though it's normally aspirated the Germans are known for putting out the must tunable cars on the planet. But you're shit out of luck with the electronics.

That is what my buddy has. I would be foolish to not at least give him a run and see how it goes. I am going to have me headers soon and will let ya know what the verdict is then!

well turboed cars from factory or supercharged is one of the best things i've seen as a trend.

it helps with better mpg and a smaller motor... wut is the ms3? a 2.1 or 2.3? ours is a 3.2 liter engine.

same with the new 335, its turboed, easier to mod IMO. more modifications as well... then again i'm a noob when it comes to FI. i don't know my stuff so w/e

last night i raced a speed3 with intake and i had a full tank of gas (im auto and bone stock). we did a 20 roll and a 40 roll. he took me on the 20 roll by half a car at 80 ish and a car and a half at 110. the 40 roll was garbage, he killed me right off the honk and was at 2 cars at 80ish... they pull hard form a 40 because for that gear, the car stays in boost..i thought it was gonna be much worse...im actually happy how it turned out

IF the Speed3 driver doesn't take it to redline expect those results to be a little worse. The Speed3 actually loses power in high rpms.

I woulda thought the CL-S would be able to keep up with a speed3 alot better than that, and actually maybe beat them. Maybe i need to drive one for myself
