cl-s in autocross?
i was wondering if anyone on here ever autocrossed they're cl before. i mean nothing too serious or anything. but i was wondering how the cl does on autocross.i know its heavy and not exactly a sports car. but i was just curious
I've autocrossed mine a couple of times. I was running on the stock MXM's and they sucked. You would be surprised how well it does. You really have to play with the tire pressures to get it to do what you want. You can pump up the rears to get the car to rotate a bit.
sinfulj32 you should come out to the next palomar run. Its a blast, nice corners, a bunch of the nsx guys cruise out and you can see how your car reacts compared to them. Check through the old SD. pages last run was page 88,
The Q has autocross days.

yeah i know about palomar. i've been driving mountain runs for a long time.thats how i totaled my civic.but i was just seeing how cl's do in an actual autocross. i know they got it at the Q so i was just checking before i got into it you know
i did it once when my car was bone stock. it was a heavy boat. ruined my brakes and melted the michelins. i wouldnt recommend unless you drove like a grandma, or upgraded your brakes/suspension/tires.

we're better off sticking to what our was made for. just cruising in style. although my car has impressed me on the mountain runs i've tooken her on. then again, i have a few upgrades to make it more enjoyable.
Think of the cars that autocross...Mini, Miata, Lotus, etc. Short, powerful, tight.
The CL is Long (1 of the longest coupes ever made), Heavy, and comfortable.
Its just not meant for it.

i didnt say that i thought the cl would be good in autocross. i know what cars are sports cars and i know that this isnt exactly a sports car. i know that it is not made for autocrossing. that is exactly why i started the thread. because i wanted to know how a luxury car like ours does on time in an autocross.
cl-s's do better in autox than most of you give it credit for.
The small cars you listed are usually the ones that set FTD...but those aren't in the same class that a cl is. Really, the only competition in the class that it runs in would be the RSX-S or the 06+ Si, or maybe the FWD DSM's with a good driver. And on any sort of tight course, the RSX-S would pretty much blow it due to the lack of an LSD.
The brakes are just fine for autocrossing. Roadracing, no, autocross, yes. On street tires, you're not going to be able to push the brakes past their limit.
And don't get me started on tires -- most Nationals level autocrossers go through one or two sets of race tires in a season. If race tires can handle that much, one event is NOT going to do anything to your street tires.

Braking at speeds below 50-60 for less than a minute won't hurt your brakes at all.
The exception to this rule is if you're running extremely aggressive pads and R compounds; but at that point, you're into SM and your brakes probably aren't stock.
I've always wondered this, too. But I was never able to do it. I'd love to one day though. I'm pretty sure it'll do better than anticipated. I've seen a few Legends do AX, and they did well.

The RSX-S does better on longer courses with more broad, sweeping turns.
You would have to have springs/adj shocks/swaybars for it to be fun, and some real sticky street tires would do wonders.
I open tracked on everything bone stock and was only slower than guys with R Compounds. The brakes and tires hated me, but it held up fine and was actually faster than you;d think.
The CL would be much better at a road course though, because the weight can be controlled easier. Autox's tend to make heavy cars difficult because of all the tight corners. The CL is much more at home in a 70mph sweeper than a 15mph 180* corner.
