CL-S 6 speed tranny???
hi,
After lurking this board and the TL board for such a long time.. it was about time for me to join this board. I went to the LA auto show and checked out the new cl-s and have questions regarding to those with the "knowledge". I was wondering... is this a whole new 6 speed? or was this unit introduced in an earlier model; ie: legend coupe 6 speed, or possibly nsx tranny? :o maybe switch out the shifter rod from the nsx? any input will be all good.
I am currently driving a 2000 beat up, banged up back and front bumper, scratched up, muddy hood, camry . My lease will be up by nov '02, but i've decided to return the car and acquire a new ride by august... and cruise/camp in a 6 speed CL-S (maybe to comptech? hehe ).
The throws were not too long, nor very short. It will need an improvement, but sounds really really good right now. I just didn't like the position of the R. The s2000's shifter must be pressed down first to shift to R which didn't seem to happen with the CL-S. Hopefully the 6 speeders here won't shift from 5th to R.
thanks for the info~ hope time would fly...

Its a whole new unit AFAIK. The ratios are very different. Don't judge the shifter too much yet. I was at the show too and without the knob installed, its hard to tell how it will really feel.
I'm sure there's a lockout to prevent accidently hitting R at speed. Going from 5 to R would require you to pull back into N, then right and back into R. 5 to 6 is just straight back. I drove 5 speeds with R almost directly below 5th and never blew it.

thanks for the input.
there was no knob on the shifter, so it was pretty hard to tell. Even though the gear ratios are different, couldn't the housing be the same?
:edit:
I doubt anyone would want to TRY to shift to a "6th" gear, *cough* R on a 5 speed even though its directly underneath 5th.
Thanks for the reply.

its new
My understanding is that this is a totally new design. Multiple sync. cones, new lightweight case, dual mass flywheel etc. Honda news.com has information about it. From what i have read its sounds very impressive. I have driven both an S2000 and a 6 speed RSX. If this new tranny is anything like those it will be great.
