CL-P gurus: IMRC required for Type-S IM swap?

i located a Type-S intake manifold, and it is up there in price. for this reason and also because i do not know where to find a IMRC and window switch, i was wondering:

is there any benefit at all to installing a Type-S Intake Manifold on a J32A1 engine, but not installing the IMRC? [the IM would be on the car until an IMRC actuator shows up...]

I'm assuming there would be a HP gain of about 10-20Whp, but that i wouldn't be using the IM and the 2 throttle bodies to there highest potential. Is this true? or would there be less than that/0 gains without the IMRC? Is the IMRC also completely necessary for the setup?

i guess another way to look at this is if there is a huge power loss when you Type-S guys' IMRC stops working? [which i have heard happened a couple times]

thanks for any input on this.

I, and a couple other guys have tried this...I never personally had it dynoed, but it felt like it worked out...gave me a few ponies on the top end...10-20 hp just isn't happening for this quick bolt on.

Check out my CL-P intake manifold swap in the FAQ forum if you haven't already checked.

You will need a tune if you decide to change to a CL-S intake

Mmmm....maybe I shouldn't have sold my spare CLS engine for $400 if I knew I could sell the manifold alone for $500!

no its $380 and then i would pay for 2nd or 3rd day shipping that is 120ish...

i always assumed that the type-S IM would give ALL of the 35 HP difference b/w the CL-P and the CL-S...after biglizard said it only gives a "few ponies on the top end" i won't be ordering it.

right now i got CAI, Headers, Pulleys [270HP i estimate]...im content "02CT-TYPES" but just looking for more HP so that its smoother all around and feels like a lighter car due to it, i got over my cockiness trying to race, etc. [took 2 years lol]

i think instead im gonna order Tein coilovers and be done modding my CL-P forever! then im gonna keep it as long as possible, it'll be my daily and eventually the beater when i purchase something else later! :-)

It's all personal preference buddy.

That would be like me saying you having a CL-S at your age is a waste due to demographics and statistics. But that's a different topic for Ramblings.

You can do whatever the hell you want to the CLs as long as your pocket is deep. Whitey, you'll get the mod bug again if you say you will be done after the Teins.

I have CL-S pistons lying around...

how can you get 45hp by just those mods..???
do those give out that much gains..?
if you already around the 270hp area with those mods...might as well finish her up with the type S manifold

Theres more to the engines internals then just a different IM. For example, a higher compression stroke. and I know theres more then that.

270 is just an estimate! just to have a number in my head. when everyone i know thinks of my name, Luigi, they also think of cars [loved 'em from day 1]. i get asked alot what my car is up to in small talk: so 270 it is. doesn't really matter and i have no other way to estimate.

i've read for CL-P, you get 17/18whp for headers, 5/6whp CAI, and 7/8whp pulleys. if you average everything out, i would be 200ish at wheels, which is 265/270 crank.

anyway i would like to see 300 and be done under the hood.

what would type-s pistons do?...and matched with an IM?? [minus IMRC at the moment]

also like i said comptech headers get 17/18whp for a CL-P, but they get about 25-30whp [from comptech dynoes] for a CL-S...

if i have headers, and get the IM, would i see gains from both the IM and also the headers? cuz then it might be worth it.

i dont want to just assume this stuff cuz it can go so many ways...

and when in doubt, don't act. i probably won't get the IM...right now anyways

yeah, you know, i just looked out the window, and here [outside of the forums], it's a beautiful day...car shining in the sun... but then i noticed these 2 huge black monsters on the side of my car!! wheel gap!!

so hold that thought guys, tein coilovers are next and i'm skipping on the IM, mainly due to my disappointment in that i wouldn't be getting 10+whp.

and BigLizard the mod bug only bites me on here lol. i would spend all my money with you guys, but like i said, gotta keep my savings and work for the next sports car. but at least my CL-P will be healthy in the next decade!

thanks for all the info.
