as long as it's got the 4.3L V-8 (or AMG 5.5L V-8) under
the hood I probably wouldn't argue with you!

Agreed, the AMG Aero II's are old and dated....some nice Brabus Monoblock V's would do the trick.

Anyway, the CLK55 is nice...but I would get an M3 over it (save $20k, can get a manual, just as fast, looks just as good).

Nope. It's big, heavy, and has an automatic transmission. Maybe a nice GT (barely), but not even close to a sports car.

Ummm... you most certainly can get the AMG package without the engine mods. The AMG engine is extra and not standard in the AMG package.

Most of the AMG Mercedes I see are just the ground effects and the wheels, no engine mods...

Actually, only AMG mechanically modified cars are true "AMG's". You can get a CLK with the "Sport Package" which includes the ground effects and AMG wheels. You've probably seen posers that stick the AMG badge on their CLK's but there's no such thing as a CLK430 AMG. All true AMG cars use a two numeric designator (EG: C32, CLK55, ML55).

Can that really be considered M5 competion when it costs nearly $320k+ more??

Insane car reguardless, and i'd take it over an M5 if cost was no object.

the only sport model in the clk line is the clk320 sport, it looks like the current clk430 - that is a clk55 - one mean motherfucker, i've driven one close to its limits, let me tell you first hand - you talk about weight, yeah, weight that makes the car stick to the road like a manget on metal, and it flat out rips, more torque than you can imagine

Wouldn't MBs answer to the M5 be the E55 AMG

BTW, Brabus is a tuner company. How about throwing this at the Brabus:

It is much cheaper too

http://www.racingdynamics.com/Locali...2Limousine.asp

Or maybe Alpina

http://www.alpina.de/english/automob...2/b12_60_e.htm

Or maybe I'll just wait until the new 760Li comes out with 400+ hp from the factory V-12

barry, only clk 320 has a sport option its new for this year, also every clk430 has amg wheels, but 5 spokes, also the 430 engine is going bye bye next year, 3.2 kompressor - same as the c32, and then the "retuned" 5.5 amg for my03

lol, ya me too ;-) that ride is super $$$$

Just thought I'd take an opportunity to take BMW down one notch... I don't get many. heh. BMW probably has the best fit & finish/bang for your buck at the prices they set. Mercedes are super sweet but a bit more $ (err a lot in this case)

that CLK is a sweet ride, I've had my eye on those for a long time now...

The car is nice, but arent they changing the shape in like 2 years? This shape is pretty outdated now.

The 7 series? The new model came out a few weeks ago. I took a look at one today. Very cool IDrive...and the handling is amazing.

This will tell you all about it. From the BMW Car Club magazine

http://www.bmwcca.org/Roundel/2001/12/CoverStory.shtml

best quote

"Whisper it now: This is the greatest driving machine Munich (or more accurately Dingolfing) has ever made. Ja, the M3, current or past, is the more immediate blast. Ja again, the M5 is a sensational blend of V8 power and 155-mph home comforts. But the new Seven does it all in one monster 4,280-lb package, delivering its front and rear seat occupants in the best of humor, after the worst of journeys. The astonishing thing is that BMW has preserved the unique driving joy that we expect, whilst delivering the full warehouse of goodies from iDrive’s 270 functions to ventilated and power- adjustable rear seats. Ya I've been gauking at that car for awhile. Although im not too sure about the new body style in the rear, and the tail lights.

The iDrive system seems pretty odd too, I dunno about the column controls. But I'll have to play with them.

That feedback input wheel in the rear and front seat is cool. I really want to play with that too! heh

400hp would be insane in such a nice luxery vehicle.

I used iDrive today, it is very good and intuitive to use. The car looks pretty good in dark colors.

You know your design is in bad shape when it looks better in darker colors.

God that 7 series is hot. Oh btw, I hate the CLKs looks. If I was rich the only Merc I would consider buying is the SL55 AMG. For all my other needs I'd turn to BMW.

ALL cars look better in darker colors :P

btw, I don't mind the lighter ones either on the 7, but most people like it more in darker ones

The new 7 just has too many weird lines that show in the lighter colors, the black one I looked at was tolerable...then I was riding next to a silver one the other day and was like "ugh."

Will say the interior of the 760Li is very nice.

The only thing that seemed strange was the trunklid. But, BMW does have a tradition of raised rear-ends. Take a look at the E30 M3, it looks a lot like the new 7. Bmws have always looked raised slightly in the rear...
