CL HID bulb replacement help

Hi guys,

I ordered a set of HID replacements for my 2003 CL-S and was wondering if anyone had any luck with the HIDExtra ones?

I ordered the 9005 for my highs and D2Rs for my lows. The only thing was that when I pulled out my highs, it looked completely different than the ones HIDExtra has sent me.

The originals look like the regular 9005 bulb and the replacement looks like a D2R bulb. I thought I could be wrong but both the highs and lows that HIDExtra had sent me both looked like D2Rs for some reason.

I also gave them a call and they said it should be a plug and play but I'm still concerned because it looks nothing alike and the plugs don't even look the same!

I found a thread that replacing the lows requires splicing of the wires, removing the front bumper and other things. All I want is just to replace the bulbs.

If someone out there has replaced this on their CLs please chime in for some assistance or if someone in the San Francisco bay area can help me with this install it would be great. Thanks

I've gotten replacement ballasts and a few sets of replacement bulbs from HIDExtra in the past; never any high beams however.

Changing the bulbs is simply plug and play, removing the bumper and splicing wires is if you are replacing the ballasts. Only thing that might give you trouble is the cap on the back of the headlight is held on by a Security Torx screw, so be prepared to ease it out with a small flat-head screwdriver if you do not have the proper bit.

Yo, sell me your oem d2r. I don't understand why you would want to replace the high-beam anyway, just keep the OEM highs. Unless you drive around with a high-beams on just so everyone can see how blue they are or something like that. I think the D2R from HIDXtra are pretty good, I drove with them for 2 years before one went out and I got replacements from Theretrofitsource, Morimoto 3Five. The Morimoto 3Five produce a better output than the HIDXtras. I'm using them with the HIDXtra Ballasts that came with the kit. But in the end, neither of these compare with the output of the OEM D2R (I used it while waiting for the Morimotos). Though the color is not dominant in the OSRAM D2R the light output and illumination was far better than the HIDXtra and the Morimoto, even with the HIDXtra Ballast.
