CL Headunit Radio

Quick question:

Does the CL stock radio have any way of directly connecting to an iPOD or Satellite radio without going thru an FM modulator ?

thanks.

I just called a company called Blitzsafe and they told me they make an adapter that connects to a 14pin connector in the back of the CL headunit that's used for an external CD changer (even with the in dash changer in place). It'll give you a line level input to the headunit. 89 bucks not including installation.

Honion, that's great.

So you bought the adapater that provides only the audio input ? There's one they sell that's specifically for the iPOD and it charges the iPOD as well. I'm not interested in that. I just want the audio input. They said it's 80 bucks for the adapter.

Can you provide me with details of installation ? What to take apart and how long it takes.

thanks a lot

Cool

I bought the adaptor that charges and provides a line in to the sound system, it comes out as only one cord, see pic. It wasn't too hard to take everything apart to get to the back of the head unit. I followed the tutorial on the Audio & Video section, and used some of the diagrams from the Helms manual. I would say the total installation will take an hour if you go slow and keep track of which screw goes where, because honestly that was the most difficult part. The adaptor was really plug and play. Please ignore the sand on my floormats, its winter in Massachusetts

Another option is the NEO Ion - provides FWD/RWD control through the stereo and steering wheel. Installed it about six months ago and it works pretty good. Sells for about $200.

When you do the install yourself, DON'T remove the radio, it's unnecessary. Unless you have really big hands, you should be able to reach behind the radio to plug in the blitzsafe adapter. It will save you a lot of time. The whole install from start to finish took me about 40 minutes.

Type Sun,

Can you tell me what exactly did you have to take off from the radio area to get to the back of the headunit ? It'll make it so much easier for me. Which panels, parts to take off.

thanks.

Follow the pdf tutorial up to page 8. Once you have the right side panel off, reach behind the radio to feel for the hole that you will be plugging the adapter into. Shouldn't be too hard, I have a 2001 CL-S, and I think the 2003s are the same, but not sure. Once you have it plugged in, check to see if it works with your ipod, then just reassemble everything from there. Don't forget to buy the rca-to-miniplug adapter at Radio Shack or any local store that sells adapter cables. The Blitzsafe adapter sounds so much better than an fm modulator or tape adapter. Enjoy!
